I have never supervised the dentist.

For some reason, I have always assumed he knows his job better than I do.

2intrigued: If someone feels the need to supervise the dentist, it might be time to get another dentist due to lack of trust in his/her skills and professionalism. I've never felt the need to supervise when I took my son to the dentist when he was young and I suspect that a parent being present while performing his/her duties might actually cause a dentist to mess up.

U should at all moments supervise dentists... they would remove ur teeth and eat ur tongue... cuz they are just plain evil professor

Don't be silly. Sandra.

The kids r scared of the dentist. Everybody is. The little one hates needles. I talk him through. They just need me there. Nothing strange.

If one feels the need to supervise a dentist, then it's time to find a new dentist.

If a child fears a dentist/doctor, it may have to do with the child picking up on the parent's fear.

I have a great dentist.
He is personable, even a little flirty, and knows he trade well.
I despise needles, even though I've been a human pin cushion over the last few years, and he has the trick down to inserting a needle full of novocaine without any pain at all.
His humor puts me at ease.
What is particularly helpful is a bit of nitrous, headphones playing Pink Floyd, and his reassuring hand squeeze now and then.

Find a good dentist and allow your children to learn that medical professionals are not to be feared.

The same dentist looked after my kids as well as me and I never felt unease at his abilities.

Seeming to supervise him would have been a huge insult and it never occurred to me any more than I would supervise a mechanic servicing my car.

In my early years, when I was a kid, a government dentist regularly visited our little bush town which had no electricity. He carried with him a portable foot operated drill and I recall its use being rather unpleasant.

Are those dentures you're standing inside of made by your dentist? wow

If so, you might want to check if he is sniffing the nitrous as well.

Kaybee50: I was just teasing him...a bit of humor considering the jaw of some massive creature and talking about a dentist. The two together are kind've humorous.

Dentists are medical professionals. I would not supervise that which I have NO training in. They are bound by oath, professionalism, and legislation.

Those were original issue and pre-date him by many thousands of years. When making my earlier post I never thought of the coincidence of my photo.

Any sensible dentist/vet would need to be as high as a kite, on stuff a lot stronger than nitrous, to go near the owner of a set of teeth like that.
