I feel that 5.15 an hour is too low, think about this, my car holds around 12 gallons of gas, gas where I live is almost 2.50 a gallon. How many hours is full time, "40" right, so it takes about 30 dollars in gas to fill the tank, it takes all of three days to run out and then you have to fill it up again, soit takes 60 dollars a week in gas for me, by the time you pay your bills, buy you grocies, and get some gas you have nothing left, I am pissed to say it nicely at or goverment. They have had 8 pay rasies since we as civlians had our last pay raise, to futher make me mad is that we as americans never truly own our on land or cars, or even dogs in my state, this country sucks due to its leadership, I am ventingvery mad ah piss I am just upset, sorry for this thread

oh, boy...

the thing is...raising the minimum wage increases unemployment and inflation. there is a finite amount of money that employers have to spend...

that amount doesn't change. so...if i have 100 bucks to spend, i can have twenty labor hours at five bucks an hour. if that's doubled...then i can only have TEN labor hours...and the rest is unemployment.

so...i raise prices, because i have to pay for labor. some people are out of jobs, and the rest of us pay higher prices or get cheaper goods.

economy moves to a new equilibrium, where the new minimum wage holds the same status as the old one did.

Secondary thought, you're getting robbed on gas. Our price is $2.09/gallon at the moment.

I agree that the minimum wage is poor but it at least offers a little legal protection from unscrupulous employers.

I'm making just over $11/hr and it's tough being on my own. I fill my tank and I can go until the next bi-weekly paycheck but then I don't go far most of the time.
I also live only about 5 miles from work. I haven't seen a cost of living raise in I don't know how long.

Gas here averages about 2.29-2.35/gal here. Last time I was in NC which was Sept this year, prices were approx. 15-20 cents cheaper than up here

Min wage was raised to $6.85 in Ohio when we voted in Nov. I don't think its in effect just yet but soon.

What I don't like is someone that might have started their job at $6.00 an hour (not too many places start people at the actual min wage) 3 years ago and has earned their raises, who is now making $7.00 or even $6.85 will not see an increase in their wages. So basically someone just walking into their company can earn what it took that person years to get!

I seriously don't know how people live on minimum wage. I make way more than minimum wage, but I have a daughter to support. I think if I was in a job earning minimum wage, I would do whatever I could to find a way into a job with better pay. If you work in a fast food restaurant, find out what it takes to be manager of the restaurant. Then work toward that goal. I always try to make things better for myself and my daughter. I have had minimum wage jobs also when I was younger. But have always sought ways to earn more. I wish you the best and hope that you can find a way to earn more money and live an easier life. wave

CNAs make pretty decent wages in my area, I hope you get more than a small raise. They should double your pay for passing the test. Thats one of those jobs where we need people but no one really wants to do it since you wipe alot of butt (and not pretty butts either).

I was a CNA years back earning something like $7.00 hr, min wage was only $3.15 at the time.

The nursing homes around Ohio pay CNAs something like $10 or better an hour as starting wages.

The nursing home I work at is getting so tight on everything to stay competitve with the other ones in my area. The deal is better for the resident but it does keep our salaries down. The nursing home paid for the college we went to for training then wanted even my nurses's aide book I got with the class to give to the new IRCA's so that the nursing home could save even more money. The RNA who taught us at the college told us that there are many places CNAs could work beside just nursing homes and before I went one of our DONs told us that she thought since the nursing home was paying out tuition that we should feel obligated to stay with the nursing home for atleast one year to counter the cost for our training. A lot of CNAs have left and wished her good luck with trying to keep CNAs around after they have been trained, lol. They are going on to be LPNs just like she did and RNAs, too, because the pay is better. Some are satisfied just to stay CNAs, too.
