(Although, I'm staying in France, specifically in Paris, I do feel the pervasive deterioration of the place.)
Things change. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. We get elated when it's good but when it's bad we feel dissatisfied and disappointed.
This is how I feel about Paris. It used to be different. Very clean and relatively safe. Now I strolled downtown, ate and shopped in the same place five years ago and I feel so much different. I can feel the deterioration and lack of safety which was prevalent in the old days.
My friend who lives here for the last 30 years feels the same way. Like everyone they share the sentiments of being diluted, polluted which eventually leads to the biggest fear every European feels in the current political and social cultural events sweeping the whole union, the influx of migrants from Africa and middle east.
Change is constant, nothing is permanent. I only hope that this volatile climate doesn't lead to the complete disappearance of the old, distinct and unique European culture as we once knew.
Anyways, I am here to enjoy myself and simply observe how it is. I will try to come every year and feel for myself the events that shape a country I used to love before it's completely lost.

Without going into too much detail & I can only speak for my own country, I can say that England has lost it's identity .
Aragorn11: Would love to have a beer with you mate. Next time i'm in Alicante
Only back a cpl weeks after a 3 year break but the agendas are still easy to spot.
Whats the craic ?
I have not been on here very much over the last 2 years either. Just started popping on here every now and then myself. That's a deal, if you are ever in Alicante, the beer is on me.
Aragorn11: This anti immigrant agenda is getting boring and tedious. I wish for you a life where you don't live in fear.
Who told you I live in fear? Just because I write an express my observation means I'm in fear. The unsafe issue, it's more of a call for more awareness that you don't become a victim.

FYI, the whole world is talking about it. Almost all the media dominate dominate this concerns, if you're bored, don't participate, but what would you suggest that would excite you?

In my experience, Paris has always been like that, it has never been a friendly place, nothing to do with immigrants, it's all to do with the arrogant and superior attitude of the population there. Travel to any other city in France and they will tell you the same, most French people dislike Paris and hate Parisians. Perhaps you are now seeing Paris without the rose colored glasses you wore last time? If you want to experience the real hospitality of France go South of Paris, there you will see, eat, drink and experience the true wonder that makes France and the French people unique. It is such a shame that Paris has this false name of being the most romantic city, when there are so many far far more beautiful and/romantic cities in Europe, Barcelona, Sienna, Bern, Dublin just to name a few, with the amazing eastern European countries now opening up, you can see real history, surrounded with some of the world's most beautiful scenery. Get out of Paris and see real Europe.

You're right Rizal, I'm revisiting this place as it us. I studied in England, years ago and it is also a very different place right now. Crowded. Italy, Venice, it seems quite unchanged. I can go to Dublin in my next trip.
In reality, my country has everything that Europe has except the preservation of the old towns. One that I like most in Europe. Otherwise, Hawaii, San Francisco, new York and ten thousands of Lake in Minnesota can't be beaten.
Either way, I know, like I said we can't stop change. It happens and we just have to accept it.
