Willow3939: Oh, that is a shame that it changed so much. I hope things improve. How long have you been a member? Have you had good experiences online dating? I'm getting pretty discouraged. Mainly I'm sticking around for the forums and blogs.
I've been looking for an improvement for the past year or more and kinda losing faith that the forums will ever be like they were when I joined in 2010. I've made some lovely friends here but as far as dating goes, distance is the biggest issue so I'm mainly here for the forums.

Yes, distance is a huge factor. I've come to the conclusion that I may have to wait until I move to Ireland, next summer, to begin dating. I wouldn't recommend online dating to anyone unless they were willing to date locally. Then it might work.

2intrigued: The forums used to rock 24/7 and it was a challenge to keep up with all the banter....great fun and a lot of laughs. A lot of fantastic people left and me thinks a lot of the fun left with them. There's still a few folks that try to keep an upbeat atmosphere and we need more of this.
Apparently there use to be chat rooms here at one time. Although i been lurking around here for a couple of years now ( ... ) on and off, it's only quite recently i have become more involved with the Forums and Blogs. It could be interesting if chat rooms were reintroduced to the site though.

If you're moving, it's probably better to wait until your there and settled in. A few folks have had luck here but when you crunch the numbers, it's pretty much a lottery.

There's some fun to be had here, socially.
It's a good way to not get to rusty, if you don't get out a lot(I don't).
If you're having fun, I'd hang around but maybe don't put all your hopes in this basket. I think that's probably sound advice for any one venue of meeting people.
Though I do think there's a fair few Irish members, so it may become more viable for you as a local dating resource when you move.

The chat rooms were just way too fast for me so I didn't bother with them. I don't think they'll be bringing back the chat rooms but if they did, I still wouldn't bother with them. I find the forums are much easier to follow.

I definitely do not get out socially, so it is good to keep up with being social, which I'm not very good at. I could best be described as a hermit with wifi.
Yes, I heard there are quite a few Irish meetups so that will be good after I move.
2intrigued: Tell me more about this search function in the forums because I wasn't aware of it and not really a newbie.
On the right side of your page, under "forum help" there'll be a "search" function. Unlike the one at the top of the page which searches users, it will search the forums.
I search "ocee102" and get results of people quoting me,
and I also search "ocee" and I get the people saying my name.
It will only rturn 3 pages of result, and the archive is searchs seems to be updated daily, or maybe on a twelve hour delay, I haven't completely worked out the timing.
2intrigued: Who's your daddy.
PS: It's also useful for spotting multi profilers, returning trolls and such if you spot a unique phrase, mispelling, or just a very rarely used out of fashion word.

Thank you so much for that bit of info....I had absolutely no idea. See, we learn something new everyday and that was my lesson for today. Can't believe I've been here so long and didn't know this.

I started with the online dating thing about five or six years ago
Met lots of guys early in the piece, found most were nowhere near as confident in real life as they were online (meetups were akin to pulling teeth lol).
Gave it up as I felt like I was holding an interview everytime which gets old real quick

Oh, I was hoping meetups would be better. I will be 51 next month and I feel I've been sitting on the shelf too long.
