Media: Turkey halts US-led strikes on ISIS from southern air base

Earlier in the day, the U.S. embassy to Turkey issued a warning for the Americans staying in the country. "Be advised that local authorities are denying movements on to and off of Incirlik Air Base. The power there has also been cut. Please avoid the air base until normal operations have been restored," the emergency message says.
Earlier, Ankara had given green light for Air Forces of U.S., Germany, UK, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to use the Incirlik air base for "airstrikes missions."

On Saturday morning Turkey closed the Bosphorus Strait for takers due to security reasons following a military coup attempt in the country.
The Bosphorus is one of world's most important chokepoints for the maritime transit of oil and grain, in particular from Russia. The Strait is the main channel for supplies of Russian grain to Turkey and some other countries.

P.S.
It is my contention flight MH17 was directed by West Ukraine Air Controller (while still in Polish Airspace) to lower its ceiling down to 30,000 feet change its course out of safe international air corridor and fly a course inside the war zone straight to a ex-Russian (pre democratic Ukraine's arsenal) a heading straight to a eastern Ukraine Russian backed resistance missile system that had ten km rage and range up to 30,000 ft that had a known location by the West Ukraine governments own admission...

An horrific event that killed lots of innocent people including 38 Australians and the a PM of Australia tried to pin on Putin....
That lead to NATO countries imposing sanctions on Russia errr, looksie Russian Oil Tanker now Sailing through Turkey again...

With an open mind consider all that as well...then read those links

He's really going to town,

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was warned by world leaders on Sunday not to use the attempted coup as “carte blanche to do whatever he wants," amid concerns the putsch has become a pretext for him to consolidate power.

Mr Erdogan moved rapidly over the weekend to round up his adversaries, arresting more than 6,000 soldiers, including senior military leaders, and judges, suspected of involvement.

So many soldiers have been detained that the lower ranked conscripts have been locked in schools and gymnasiums in the capital, Ankara.

Thousands of Russians Evacuated From Turkey

Over 450,000 Russians were evacuated from Turkey on Sunday following a failed military coup

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said that Tel Aviv “respects the democratic process in Turkey and looks forward to the continuation of the reconciliation process between Turkey and Israel.”

Saudi Arabia “expressed the kingdom’s welcome that things are returned to normal led by his Excellency President Tayyip Erdogan and his elected government and in line with the constitutional legitimacy and the will of the Turkish people,” the Saudi Press Agency said, quoting a Saudi official.

Qatar also condemned the military coup.

“The state of Qatar expressed its strong denunciation and condemnation of the military coup attempt, lawlessness, and violation of the constitutional legitimacy in the Republic of Turkey,” Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

WikiLeaks reported suffering a “sustained attack” after it announced the upcoming release of hundreds of thousands of documents relating to Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the wake of a failed military coup.

Me or terrorists?' Furious Erdogan tells US to choose between Turkey and Syrian Kurds

Up to 21 academics were detained by Turkish authorities in mid-January for signing a petition demanding that Ankara abandon its military crackdown on Kurdish rebels in the southeast of the country. The petition denouncing Turkey’s military operation against Kurds was signed by as many as 1,200 academics. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said they all sided with the Kurdish militants, who are considered terrorists by the government. "Unfortunately these so-called academics claim that the state is carrying out a massacre. You, the so-called intellectuals! You are dark people. You are not intellectuals," he stated.

Turkey allows US to resume Syria and Iraq airstrikes from Incirlik airbase

According to Hans M. Kristensen, the director of the Nuclear Information Project at the Federation of American Scientists, underground vaults at Incirlik hold about fifty B-61 hydrogen bombs--more than twenty-five per cent of the nuclear weapons in the nato stockpile. The nuclear yield of the B-61 can be adjusted to suit a particular mission. The bomb that destroyed Hiroshima had an explosive force equivalent to about fifteen kilotons of TNT. In comparison, the "dial-a-yield" of the B-61 bombs at Incirlik can be adjusted from 0.3 kilotons to as many as a hundred and seventy kilotons.

Incirlik was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the wake of the Second World War; when Turkey joined nato, in 1952, it became a crucial American base during the Cold War. With a flight time of about an hour to the Soviet Union, the base hosted American fighters, bombers, tankers, and U-2 spy planes. And, like many nato bases, it stored American nuclear weapons. nato strategy was dependent on nuclear weapons as a counterbalance to the perceived superiority of Soviet conventional forces
