aries1234: Children can be very cruel sometimes Bearwoman, You have seen it on here with some of the childish people
aries I've witnessed it in real life too.I was bullied by a couple of my own older siblings and in school so I know all to well what being bullied is. Unfortuantely the only behavior we actually have any control over is our very own.

Kids get into drugs so early these days, Lindsy, it's a tragedy.

Harbal: You obviously don't give in to temptation as easily as I do, BW.
Thank Goodness I never have and never will.

I do have a conscience.

lindsyjones: Tom this is no longer the case at least in my country.

Today our academic curriculum or the school system has already embraced this phenomenon or situation and it is done in a way where in all the gifted children are in one place. They are no longer mixed up with the other kids in order to avoid jealousy or for lack of a better word the inability to handle this difference.

My grandson is an example. He is only 8 years old but two years ago he was diagnosed with ADHD first.. then eventually they realize that his brain has the capability of solving things that is equivalent to the level of high school student if not even in college. At one time we were discussing about acid and out of the blue he just blurted out all the many components and differences of acids and their value and I was just flabbergasted to learn that. And another thing his knowledge of computer lingo is formidable and he doesn't even have computer or cell phone.

I am sorry about your experience and I believe in United States the reason why they are big on Progressive learning is simply to avoid what you have experienced. It's very understandable that if you mix the gifted children with the not so gifted ones naturally conflict will arise. I am so happy that in my country the curriculum or the system that caters to this need is big on the support of the government.
Thankyou for sharing that Lindsay that is encouraging, lets hope it becomes widely accepted, these children are a national asset.cats meow

aries1234: Having been a child prodigy myself, I know the mine field that such children go through with jealous peers, it's nice to see that nature is still producing these children who can be of benefit to mankind. I hope they don't as I did dumb themselves down in an attempt to be accepted by their society .

Has it how's that? I witnessed some bullying the last couple days.I'm still puzzled by it all of why some people if they don't really and truly don't like someone why do they even bother to enter into someones thread topics and say such hateful things. Why don't they just move on? Is their own lives all that boring so they get their kicks of purposely hurting others or do they have a score to settle with that particular person.I really don't or understand it?

Of course Tom.where would we be without the likes of Einstein, Da Vinci, Newton and Hughes and even Musk or Tesla.

You see in Sonoma County alone, we have a very gifted 14 year old and finished his Doctoral degree at such age. He is now employed by the government of course.

Intelligence is a gift and an endowment Tom. I feel so sorry for the people (many of them on here), who fail to recognize that we are all different and that our abilities are not all the same whether in nature or through development.

Anyways, calling Trump as an idiot for instance baffle the life out of me. Then I realize, that is the level of their grasp as to what is, so I am not arguing anymore.

Carry on and be a light to the darkness of ignorance.

I was also a "gifted" child - although it is not a term I like, as all children are gifted in one way or another, and IQ is not the only thing that matters. In fact, I'd have had a more successful life with a lower IQ and better people skills......

But there we are.

The subject does remind me how annoying I find it, however, that governments spend so much extra money on the really stupid, to try to boost them up to "average", yet not a cent more on high-IQ kids, despite the fact that the money would be better spent there, surely.....

MsContessa: Gifted children are high on intelligence but not on emotions... Parents/teachers need to be mindful to that! In addition, gifted children may not necessary mean gifted adults!
Wow....now there's one very small minded uninformed, disinterested, statement...as well as unfair and very unkind...

Gifted children and gifted adults are as human as everyone else..In fact, they're often far more senstiive, far more emotionally mature, kinder, gentler, more tolerant, forgiiving and aware than most mainstream kids...and they have to work incredibly hard to fit in with kids their own age, as well as having no choice either.....It'd be like expecting you as an intelligent well read adult to go and sit in infants class and talk at their level all day every day for years and years of your life.....and then have to play their games at break timie..It's no wonder gifed kids are loners at school....they don't belong on planet 7 year old.

Ireland is not a good country for gifted kids to grow up in either...
