At first, people are all enthusiastic about knowing each other, with the idea of a potential meet up and, who knows, maybe something deeper but...
After a period of "temporary madness", when things have calmed down, they begin to get boring and people just get tired of each other and the meet never take place.
Unless people have already met up close and personal and a connection has already been made, then the distance should not matter. Sometimes absence makes the hearts grow fonder.
