myssmyss: A friend of mine, was in a relationship that ended about 5 years ago. He found and married someone else, whilst she has been an on and off single. Recently, they met by chance, he told her that his marriage was over, he was still in love with her and since she was single, would like for them to get back together again, to this my friend replied no. A few days later, he called her and asked that she returns all the presents that he had given her during their turbulent 3 year relationship, note: the relationship ended about 5 years ago. Again she said no, to which he replied that he will seek legal action to get her to return all the presents. Aparently, he has found a lawyer, who is willing to take such actions against her, my guess is that the lawyer only wants his money, as she always said "he has more money than common sense". Question: Do you give back presents when a relationship has ended or what do you do with them?

I do not as you put it "You don't need an excuse or our validation". I have never been in such a situation, as NONE of my exes have ever asked to have back any presents or anything for that matter that I got from them, so I was curious how others handle such situations.

I have never gotten presents, but if i give something away it belongs to that person. As far as i can tell the person who wants the things back is just trying to find away to be in the other persons life. Even if the person got those things back they would not be happy, for it is truly not those things they want.
Donate it if it's a item that someone might enjoy. I.E, stuffed animals for children. If it's a love letter, put it through the shredder. If it's jewelry, sell it.
Update: My friend just called, aparently she came home yesterday to find her ex outside her apartment door, whenever she tried to open it, he tried to get in, so she called the police. Since it was a call of a domestic nature, a male and female officer arived. After explaining the situation, and even though the officers said he didn't have a case against her, she agreed to let the female officer into the apartment to "look" for the ring.
According to her, she almost "sh't" her pants when they opened her jewellery box and found a reciept from the pawnshop for a ring like the one he was asking for. The officer smiled and together they went to tell her ex that no such ring was found. To stop him from harassing her further the officer asked if she wanted to file a restraining order so he couldn't come near her again for the next 2 years, she did, and "he walked away like a dog with his tail between his legs". She said that as the officers were leaving the female came back to her and whispered "next time hide the evidence more carefully". Oh how I wish I was still living near her, and would have been able to witness that scene.
So men, if you want to get your ex back, don't go harassing her or you may loose, if it's meant to be….it will be.
