Difficult to imagine anything new under the sun, perhaps it’s a blend. I’m the one man in my gym to have any idea what happened at the battle of Stalingrad.

That is so you Rumples. I absolutely believe that.
I played in a football match 10,500ft up in the Hindu Kush, Northwest Pakistan Frontier region. We played in a village which was two days walk from the nearest roadhead, I seem to remember the team that me and my two friends were playing in won 10-5. The next day we had shooting target practice when we met the Mujahideen.

Crazy place is Pakistan....
I'm quite sure that no one else on CS can even remotely claim of having experienced this.

What an awesome experience Bod.
Haha, that wasn't long after we were on one of the most dangerous passenger flights in the world which had to abort mid flight. Only to be followed by a 27 hr bus journey on one of the most dangerous roads in the world. On the journey we were ambushed twice, the driver got a beating three times, and to round a bad day off for him, he managed to break his big toe due to kicking one of the wheels after we got our second puncture.

The older I get, the more I appreciate my boring little life here in the Heartland.

And you did all this because...?
Btw, the bus got ambushed twice, but the driver got three beatings?

Yes, he got a beating at an army checkpoint as well as from the other two occasions.
We did it in the spirit of adventure....and to find a new tre route in Northwest Pakistan forp my friends trekking company. At the time all the treks in Pakistan were in the East, mainly around K2 and Nanga Parbat. No company was taking people out in the west around the Afghani border area and a Himalayas giant, Tirich Mir (25,500ft,) we included base camp on the trek. It turned out to be one of his most popular treks for quite a while until things got too unstable out there.
Kaybee50: ..... that you're certain no one else on CS has done?
I'll start.
Back in the 80s I overnighted in the Commander's quarters of a German Mine Sweeping vessel docked in Bremen Harbor.
Being a rough sleeper for two winters down and out in London in the late 90's then moving 'home' to a castle in Ireland. It was a surreal contrast from cardboard box to some massive pile of stones build in the 13th hundreds all to myself.

I lived there about two years, and yes it had all the mod cons of modern living. With a long stone spiral staircase, one one didn't want to climb when tipsy or drunk... Fab views from the top. Living quarters are more modest these days
