jac_the_gripper: There is no question, whatever our personal opinions of Diana, that she was adored by many and influential as a result.
Some may question the the manner of her death, whether it was accidental, a consequence of recklessness, or even murder, but let's work from what we know for sure: Diana died on the 31st August 1997.
Had the trajectory of her life continued, had she lived and maintained a relationship with Dodi Fayed, would the world be the same as it is today?
tomcatty: , Ve have ways of making you laugh, well the trains run on time in Germany, Why not a timetable for cuddles
My mum has actually said that, taking the piss out of herself...and the English.
I was thrilled to bits when Arriva Trains Wales were bought out by European companies, but they started with takng all the unsafe rolling stock off the tracks before they tackled sticking to the timetable.
I tried to find an interview with people from a women's refuge, I think it was. They were glad and taken aback that she wasn't stuck up, but easy to be with.
I was in my second year of college when the interest and infatuation with Lady Diana Spencer began. She had been dating Charles under-the-table, but a reporter had trekked up to a cottage in the way-far out country, and saw them together. They were actually fishing, and Charles had his canvas and easel propped (the prince is an accomplished artist). Diana worked in London at an elementary school, and when she returned to work she was nearly mauled by a teeming crowd of people. Soon after, she obligingly posed for photographers, not knowing her underwear shown through her light dress. The queen was enraged, and thus began a permanent rift. (Diana hated not being allowed to tell her side of things since she was a small child). Although the queen would be publicly kind, it has been documented that she was condescending to Diana, sarcastic. Diana once went to the kitchen to get a snack, and talked with the service staff casually. It was reported, and The Duke, The Queen, and Charles gave her a bawling- out that lasted several hours. Some Americans at the time were upset at Ronald Reagan’s win of The White House, and First Lady Nancy’s uppity smarminess, so they naturally saw Diana as a celebrity nouveau, and dismissed her validity ( at first). It was only after the separation, and the “ tell-all” of Camilla’s involvement, that people started seeing which way the wind blew. What a mess. The marriage should never have happened. And Charles and Camilla are together, after all. What a Donnybrook Fair that could have been avoided.
jac_the_gripper: People seemed to like her in the US, mind.

I was a student working in a well known shop behind the pharmacy counter at the weekend on the day of the wedding.
Of course there were next to no customers that day and all the staff, including the pharmacist/manager wanted to spend the day in the electrcal department watching the event on the TV.
It was clear to me from Charles' 'whatever in love means' comment that Diana was being betrayed as a human being and I had no interest in watchng the pomp and ceremony, the facade covering her being used and abused.
I did get to run an entire, albeit small and rather empty, department store on my own, though. That was a unique experience for a 'Saturday girl'.

Would you be the same as you are today?
