blathin: Putin's no fool..himself and China have been buying up gold for years...he's also reduced Russia's dependance on foreign funding to pretty much zero...has increased Russia's debt/GDP to just 18%. Alongside China and a few other countries they have set up CIP's (the althernative to SWFT - must be at least 7 year old by now). He's built up his military from nothing to literally superpower proportions...gives a huge % of GDP to military (for good reason). He's developed really good relations with China, Iran, Turkey, and many other countires that try to keep it quiet..e.g Germany...and he really looks after his people in the way a leader should....

The isolation and sanctions might sting a bit,but he's been preparing for this for almost his whole presidency....

I remember years ago at some G7 meeting how civil he was...and absolutely everyone of the western leaders were rude, snide and pretty much ignored him...he held his head high though and always spoke to them with respect..he's been asking them for years to work with him...but no....

Will these sanctions hurt? emotionally yes...financially no....

They WILL hurt us though....

Nickel is already up 84% today....

The home builders index is falling..

Merck etc are refusing to transport Russian goods

The Bosphorus Straits are controlled by Turkey (Ergdogan)..and he won't upset Putin/Russia...

Oil/gas...elaboration not needed..

Ukraine supplies 12% of the world's calorific content...

China had to slaugher millions of pigs last year and they supplied more pork to the world than the rest of theworld put together....They're expecting a poor harvest this year so have been buying up all sorts of left over grains/foods from all over the world...and russia is their biggest trade partner after the US (if memory serves..)...

Because of all the problems the banks can't put up interest rates = no control over inflation...

OH we in the west are going to suffer alright....

And while the people are suffering ...the governments are funding wars they can't afford and letting their own people go cold and hungry....
I think the ordinary person on the street wouldn’t know about that , especially when they show the humanitarian catastrophe on all media outlets .
They are trying to appeal to our humanitarian side , but the real motive of our governments is power & greed , for which we will pay a high price in the future .
Cutting internet access is also pointless too . Many top businesses left & set up shop outside Russia as a provision.

ChesneyChrist: It's going to hurt Russia but I think it might be playing into his hands. I don't know if the Russians are going to join Putin in his bunker or not. They might intelligently blame Putin or become even more morbid and vindictive and enamoured by a charismatic strongman
Putin will come out of this smelling of roses .
He always does & however we try to suffocate him , he is already 2 steps ahead of the west & Nato .

First few moments of this clip clearly show that sanctions won't be affecting Putin . Germany is leading the charge to protect Putin's war machine . All the talk about a united stand against Putin prior to the invasion were lies

Russia have Germany at their mercy, with 50% of there energy supply coming from Russia .
Britain only get 3% , so you can understand Germany’s concerns in the event of sanctions.

The Germans were able to purchase gas they needed from the USA . Biden has destroyed that . Sanctions against Russian fuel supplies is the one that matters and its not included , including the ability of the Russian's to be paid for it via Swift . The point I'm making is that the sanctions are a lie .

Of course they are a lie & any sanctions put apon Russia are trivial.
So a few Russians had their assets frozen. Big deal . I’m sure Putin will give those oil rich tycoons lucrative contracts when they take over Ukraine.

Unlike you I don't need a forum full of strangers to feel intelligent.
Even when you get so much so wrong it's laughable.
I don't know which is creepier , you being the horrible yolk you are or seeing you kissing up to people in the most insincere way possible.

epirb: What sanctions , can you list them
It's easy to find that info online...but what's even more concerning is the US's idea of sanctioning Russia's gold....I heard talkk of it but not sure if it's gone ahead, going ahead or still just an idea...

Anyone who own's gold in the west, be they an ordinary man on the street...to banks, investment funds...who owns it and wants to sell it, use it as payment etc etc will have to prove to the LME that it's not russian sourced...If it is, then it'll be deemed as worthless....

The knock on effect of that will be absolutely disasterous for the west...so the US would want to tread extremely carefully if they're thinking of going down that route sanctions wise...

epirb: I read talk of sanctions but its fake . A few boats grabbed for the camera's , building of a pipeline been stopped (or has it ) thats not being used yet . Russia kicked from using Swift , which they are still using . Problem was supposed to be over in 3 days with a new Ukrainian government blowing kisses world wide instantly recognized by some countries and grudgingly by the rest , not so easy when those sold out want to fight . The sanctions have been show to be fake because of the time scale .
That depends on who you are and what your financial relationship is with russia /russian businesses etc...and what agreements/contracts have legally been agreed...

Youcannow: So we are in agreement then .
Putin made provisions for this conflict , but unfortunately, it took the west by surprise & it’s this uncertainty that’s caused the west to panic.
Where was our superior intelligence . How did we misjudge the situation when we knew Putin was going to invade ?
No one knew Putin was going to invade....it really was a bolt out of the blue...for everyone..

Won't affect Putin one bit if the US sanctions Russian gold , the more they hold onto or forced not to sell allows them to borrow against it if they need to from china .Bidens made damn sure with his domestic polices against oil production driving up the price of fuel that Putin will be well paid for his oil . Driving up the price of gold will help Putin again . But for sure , talk of sanctions is hurting us already , badly with no effect on Putin .

What they fought for: sanctions will leave Europe without a harvest
Pay attention: RUSSIA DIDN'T RESPOND YET on Western sanctions .
but anyway
Already in the autumn in Europe - unaffordable tariffs for electricity. First of all, it hit the chemical industry. Last year, the largest producers Yara, CF Industries, Fertiberia suspended the production of nitrogen fertilizers, sharply inflating their prices on the European market.
According to industry group Fertilizers Europe, 80 percent of the industry's costs come from gas. The key raw material, ammonia, which is needed for nitrogen fertilizers, has also risen sharply in price. This immediately hit the supply chains. In the UK, for example, there is a shortage of frozen meat due to a lack of dry ice. And the farmers are worried about the harvest. No fertilizer comes from China. Under such conditions, the demand for products from Russia has increased dramatically.
At the same time, domestic prices for nitrogen mineral and chemical fertilizers were fixed - three to four times lower than in Europe. So that suppliers would not seek to go to premium markets, the authorities limited exports from December to the end of May.
According to Rosstat, last year the production of mineral fertilizers increased by 5.6 percent, to 24.9 million tons (in the active substance). As follows from the data of the Federal Customs Service and Trade Map, about 65 percent is exported. Almost a quarter - to the European Union and the United States, to China - seven percent.
However, now the Europeans are at risk of losing what they have. The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to suspend deliveries due to the "sabotage" of logistics companies that refused to work with Russian cargo. As a result, farmers in the EU and other countries cannot receive the contracted volumes.
“This creates obvious risks of crop failure and, as a result, food shortages for the countries of Western and Eastern Europe, Latin America, South and Southeast Asia. After all, it is either extremely difficult or even impossible to replace Russian fertilizers today,” the Ministry of Industry and Trade says.
to be continue ..

Analysts state: the agriculture of Europe is threatened with a real catastrophe. This sector of the economy is already under the yoke of high prices for agrochemicals.
“If shipments from domestic chemical plants stop, prices will skyrocket and mineral fertilizers will literally be worth their weight in gold, or even platinum or palladium. European farmers will not be able to find a full-fledged replacement for Russian products, since the remaining production of nitrogen fertilizers does not provide their needs. With phosphorus - similarly. With potash, the situation is better thanks to the German K + S Group, however, its capacities are not unlimited, "- points out Leonid Khazanov, an independent industrial expert.
There are no alternatives, he says. In Africa, nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers are too scarce. In North America, everything goes to local farmers. As for potash, neither Canadian Nutrien nor US Mosaic will be able to quickly ramp up production.
As a result, European farmers will either have to reduce the area under crops or grow crops without mineral fertilizers.
The crisis also heightened concerns about the supply of grains, primarily wheat. For the first time since 2008, its value on the Chicago Stock Exchange is already above $11 per bushel. In the first three days of March, wheat has risen in price by 22.2 percent - stronger than in the whole of February.
Bloomberg states that it's all about the consequences of large-scale US and European sanctions. The restrictions affected the situation with supplies through the Black Sea. As the agency clarifies, the harvest may be 30-50 percent less than in 2021, food prices will soar.
Russia, experts assure, will not be left behind. "A possible suspension of grain exports due to the actions of foreign logistics operators will only lead to its rise in price throughout the world, hitting Europe hard," Khazanov points out. The competitors will be Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other countries that are ready to pay well for grain from Russia.
