if the wiretap can not be used to obtain a search warrant of my property or admitted as evidence sure, it might even create osme jobs... but i would be hard pressed to say yes if they sent those jobs to some other country....
.
imagine wiretapping operators jobs as many as answering service operators. The government would probably outsource those jobs which finanicially would be better for the taxpayer.

I don´t know how things are in US at the moment, here the phonecalls are wiretapped automaticly by keywords, if the computer identifies a list of words like osama, cocaine, and who knows what else the calls get recorded. I can´t imagine, things are different in US....

The Germans are the most efficient, like allways, just 2 weeks ago the German minister of interior tried to get a new law accepted that allows the government to wiretape all computers are connected to the internet. The reason was to legalize something what the government did illegal since about 3 years.

When setting up multiplexer lines (ISDN mainlines with 32 lines or more) companies are bound to leave 1 line free for the possibility of wiretaping by administration.

I don´t know the US gov. habits at the moment, it´s to long ago I was involved with telecommunications is the US, but I the technology exists....

Makes here things possible like:
When ordering by phone 100 pounds of (real) hay for the cow or..in the Netherlands, may be police suspects ordering 100 pounds of pot, comes for a visit and finds - no pot, but you whatever they find else, even if it is a fire drencher with illegal halon filling or a pitbull without authorization, you will be accused for.irish

Finaly! Bravo! Many years ago I was shown a facility near Quantico, Virgina wherein US military personel and assumed FBI?CIA people were tapping into phones all over, up and down the east coast and all the transatlantic cables; some were specified targets; many were random sweeps as they upgraded and increased their ranges...your "Rights"? Every one would laugh and make jokes about "Rights"...and these was from "good ol' boys" that loved America and were stalwart patriots...sure they were...spy on, turn in lock up and kill your own people at the drop of a hat..."hell", as one told me, "we're our own worst enemy..." Nothing has changed.

Nothing to hide, and nothing to fear, other than, say, a police state.
