As some of you know i have recently moved back to my home town, My parents are both gone and this place is certainly not the same, Went by the old childhood home, the old dirt road has been paved the old house doesn't stand anymore it's been replaced with a mobile home. but just driving by brought back so many fond memories. my dog "dinky" (half beagle half basset hound) plunging in the ditches after a big rain, and jumping on my brothers with muddy feet. my brothers catching lizzards and chasing me with them, ugh, riding back in the woods in the back of the old pickup truck, the two owls that used to sit in the tree by my bedroom window at night, i caled them herman and ethel, have no idea why lol. i so miss those carefree days. (well except the lizzards) I kknow people who remember a pair of shoes they had when they were young, i dont' remember wearing them much, i remember taking them off outside and hiding them so i wouldn't have to wear them, i still hate shoes, it's been kind of emotional being back home, but i love being home.
so what fond memories of your child hood would bring a tear to your eyes?
you have a way with words, feelings. What you just said brought more than a tear. Childhood, oh my God, many memories, some bittersweet. My grandma was my everything, didn't have a chance to show her my appreciation as I would have liked to and as she so much deserved. Otherwise, I remember stealing fruit from the neighbor's tree, catching butterflies, making raspberry suflee from our own raspberry bushes, milking cows, feeding the animals, digging up potatoes, ice skating and snow ball fights.....
I remember making rasberry jam, catching butterflies, snow ball fights, tobogganing, skating, martial arts, going on trips, riding my bike to the farming area---once I saw this big piece of blue Styroform and I ran up and kicked it--that was no styroform it was a chewin block for cows---that damn well hurt. Climbing apple trees--going to the stock yards and hopping on the backs of sheep hey those things can really give you a ride.
I have so many beautiful memories as I got older taken my son to his first movie when he was 4 years old---it was 101 dolmations and in the show the dogs were howling and my son began howling I had to put my hand over his mouth but each time I removed my hand he would continue. Taken him to hockey games and baseball games coaching and winning a championship going up north fishing camping trailer pks cottages riding a home made built dirt bike finding out it had no breaks boating wave hopping---amazing...
I remember when i was a kid in summer...I was in Spetses island!!! I remember the sun'sw rays coming through the window...The white house of the town were so bright under the strong sun...And me playing with my grandparents!!! Go swimming....Wonderful memories...
That was nice. I think it’s great that you can look back and reflect on those moments. Not many people have the chance to do so. It’s true you do have a way with words. It reminded me of a time when I use to make skateboards out of wooden milk crates and go on my very own secret adventures. Thanks for sharing a part of your memories.
I have the smell of my grandparent's basement locked in my senses. It hid faint touches of gramma's powder, the pantry spices & the dryer. Maybe it was the Georgia humidity that locked it all together but it still remains there, to this day. That smell to greet me(and those ice pops in the basement freezer) always made for a great excuse for entering throught the basement.
I remember going 2 the 5and dime store with grandma, picking candy from the jars.Playing cowboys with kids on my street in a large overgrown farm/pasture.We lived in a suburb so areas like that were rare.Sat on dad's lap watching baseball, sneaking sips of his beer(dislike it as an adult. My 1st dog and neighbors who were kind andgood 2 me.I could go on and on,but I do that 2 much at times. Good Thread!Brings warm memories for the night.

i was a tom boy when i was a child only boys to play with. I was the one catching lizzards .newts. frogs. Even had these huge water beetles with bright orange undersides which used to bite which was all part of the fun
Life was good until I had to grow up quickly. My parents were strictly religious which didn't give me much of a social life when growing up. There were alot of good memories but some not so good. The best days I can remember are when Disco was big, It was the most fun I had in my younger years. Love that 70's show
my childhood memories are good as i live with my gran and we would visit her sisters in the country. I learnt to knit, bake bread and scones. But i had an aunt who was one of the best. I travelled 200 miles 3 times a week to help my cousin nurse her and even up to her death she always told me i was 1 in a million. Sadly today is the first anniversary of her death. I miss her so much it really hurts...sleep in peace auntie bridgee.....heaven has another angel..
