wikkedAjax, Ontario Canada655 Threads 4 Polls 6,091 PostsI would like to just have opinions on a question that has arisen in my workplace...Why do non-smokers feel they have the right to make derogatory comments to smokers...but if they see an obviously overweight person heading for their third or fourth helping at the buffet...they do not feel it is polite to comment to that person? If one smokes..does that automatically make then second class citizens and therefore not worthy of some respect....

I think that depends on where you are at but in alot of cases smokers are shunned.
I think they wouldn't say anything to an overeater because they figure the overeater isn't harming them vs your smoke would be.

I had to take a second out to lol, but very good post, the worst type of smoker is the person who has given up smoking so most of the time iv found that if some1 gives out about you smoking while they are eating its norm a ex smoker: you cant give out to some1 for eating too much........

yeah i know what you mean..I'm a ex smoker but I still light up every now and then lol. But I think some who quite had to because of health reasons or such, so they are jelious of the ones who still do smoke ..so they give you guys grief about it .

I believe that it is the hypocrasy in our PC world. If some one says anything against an overweigth persons, he or she is seen or feels as a kind of bigot. On the other hand, a smoker is suppose to cause more damage to the bystander that a coronary that does not involves them. At the end they are not protecting no one except themselves.

Heres why nobody says anything to a fat person at a buffet...because that fat person will kick that little skinny person's bum for getting in the way of their food! Belive me, if some lil person started telling me to stop eating, I'd sit on them while I ate my 4th cheese burger!
But I do agree, smokers are being shunned for no real reason other than political correctness. I don't smoke myself, but my parents do, and its hard to find a public place for them to light up at.

You know, in my opinion there are many "closet smokers..."so the ones that are making the comments or derogatory comments usually are closet smoker. So which is worse, smokers or liars...LOL I think every one deserves respect and somkers are definitely not second class citizens. Now the buffet thing, well, I know I would make a comment under my breath if I saw someone going to the buffet several times...."I'd say - hell where are they putting all that food!" I don't order buffets...TO MUCH FOOD.....LOL

The all time record I hold is going back up 10 times, cause I was super hungry lol. It was an all you can eat place, and I got kicked out for eating too much! lol But normally its like 2 or 3 times back up.

I don't make derogatory comments to smokers, and yeah, I am an ex-smoker myself. I never really considered the paramaters before I had kids, but two of my children have severe asthma, and while I can easily avoid smoking restaurants, sometimes I need diapers, and it can be very difficult to get into Wal-Mart through the press of the smokers at the door. I really wish it was illegal in places like that...would make my life so much simpler.
My kids have never been around it in their entire lives...I even made my ex take a shower if he came home from his sister's house before he touched my babe. It's a difficult debate...the easiest way to look at it for me is that...while the smoker chooses to inhale, the little child doesn't.
Maybe there should be places...just for smokers? I don't know what the answer would be, I don't want to upset others, but I do want to protect my kids, ya know?

Allen, 10 TIMES - OH MY...WHERE IN THE H_ _ _ DID YOU PUT IT ALL. Darn I would run out of things to say, if you got up 10 times at a buffet for more food...LOL That's hard to believe since, I usually have plenty to say and I never run short on words, but I do think I would say something like this...
1. 2 X - Okay he's enjoying his dinner!
2. 3 X - Hummmm "sound only" - with a little chuckle.
3. 4 X - My eyes are bigger as I watch you go for 4ths.
4. 5 X - Oh my god - where is he putting it all....
5. 6 X - Okay, this guy is putting the food under the table and I start looking. LOL
6. 7 X - My face has a look of oh S H _ _! He's got to be kidding!!! and I check under the table again.....LOL
7. 8 X - Eyes just watch you, with a laugh so loud in me you could almost hear me...
8. 9 X - I ask are you very politely are you really going again - and you say "yep" - I go to the restroom to be sick....and say "Oh my God - he is haveing a food attack"
