I look for people roughly plus or minus 7 years. Someone much older or much younger than that, and they'd need to be extra special to catch my eye I think.
Since I love music, I find that most people that I meet that are far older or far younger, have greatly different musical tastes. So that is an initial turn off. What moves your soul musically is often a great indicator of compatibility.. Not to mention, imagine a road trip listening to crap you hate! :)
Also, it seems rare to find someone greater than +/- 7 years around my age that is in the same place in their life. Goals, dreams, hobbies, etc..
I imagine that as I get older, that +/- 7 will expand a bit. I would assume that a forty year old dating a 50 year old is much less of a difference than a 30 year old dating a 20 year old.
I've seen some extreme age differences work before, but its rare.
At a dinner party, some person told me an interesting social rule about the low end: half your age + 7. So I could theoretically date someone that is 22 according to that rule. Seems too young to me. I've never heard any rules for dating older heh.
You're right. but I'd only go up to 5 years above me and 7 to 10 below me. If there is a perfect age for me, that would be 35...But in a year, it'll be different
To a certain extent, it does to me. I like men that are older than me, but no more than 60 years old. I will date a younger one, but not younger than 29. That's as far as I go.

age does not matter, i ususally date younger, as much as 15 years younger...i am going out with the first guy my age this weekend...since about 13 year ago..my last ex was 8 yrs younger....
I dated a lady 22 years younger than me and I really enjoyed this relationship. I learnt from her as she learnt from me. We shared the world of music and stage. We were able to discuss a wide range of subjects on which we had differing opinions and differing perspectives. Most important we could respect and love each other without baggage. The people around us however did not like this and could not see the depth of our interest in each other.
don't even know why I am answering this...it's been done soooo many times,BUT. tonight just proved my point! YES age matters, it seems the older we get, the more stupid we become!!
Age is still a big issue, whether we admit it or not. It doesn't seem to be an issue for the couple involved of course but to the beholder, it never goes unoticed.
Well, whether you like it or not, certain persons will have their say and some people in certain positions might have the power to sabotage your relationship if they don't like what they see. Retorically speaking, it shouldn't matter, unfortunately it does.
I'm 36.. ideally I'd like someone 5-10yrs older than me.. possibly my age. But definitely not younger, I would be wayyy to self concious about being the 'Older woman'
