Several said it is to live. Sounds sensible to me but I would go one step further. We have been given some remarkable features to do this living with (apart from procreating as seems to be the primary motive of many here judged from the titles of threads).
1)We can learn, reason and distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil etc. Even more we can have fun doing so.
2)We can love
3)We can enjoy
4)We can choose - particularly how and why we live and what the meaning of our lives will be.
Many people seems to live without enjoying, loving or spending any time finding pleasure in learning from the great treasure trove of knowledge that is available. They choose not to give their lives any meaning but simply to exist.
It may be answerable ....but in a multitude of ways.
I guess we live day by day... finding different answers, everyday.
We try to give it meaning by our experiences....and based on them. What works for one may not work for another.
Trying to simplify it... I would have a go at this: I think the intention is that we are here to live, love, enjoy, and let live... and in the meantime leaving our *space* here, in a better way, for the ones who will follow. Unfortunately greed and power get in the way..
the meaning of life is to enjoy yourself as long as it doesn't hurt/ harm other people. you could go down the biblical route & say it is to continue the human civilization by having children, well what about couples who can't have kids, is their existence pointless? Though humanity has screwed planet Earth up enough as it is,ain't we? Do we really need more generations to ruin our beautiful planet even more? Now there's a debate on it's own!
