As a species, we could learn a lot from ants.
As for superiority....dolphins, killer whales, family groups...depends on the environment and the standpoint.
But if you want a structured society with order, a heirachy, and a workforce beat the common ant.
Base the importance on family structure a whale pod is the perfect norm.
As for humanity, its almost a kin to a virus on the planet, stripping the place bare of resources till theres nothing left....and thats pretty much what a virus will do.
Unless or civilisation finds a way to migrate to another star system or species is by its nature doomed.
Now theres a cheery thought and thread killer! Happy friday night!!
HOMO SAPIENS,when we are at our best. Of course, not all of us are up to scratch, but then neither are all the Members of other species. Getting TIRED having to constanly apologize for being a member of the Human Race!!!

Placing all ego and arrogance aside? Well, that's the human race out for a start then, eh? For all our development, education, mental agility, reasoning, logic, conscience, judgement..... we still have't really evolved much, have we? I don't think there is any other species with such a capacity for destroying itself (and everything else around it), is there? Surely, by us humans believing ourselves to be superior, we simply show we are not...?
Which species is the superior? Mmmm.... good question, I shall ponder this and get back to you?

I was thinking more along the lines of parts of the drake equasion and the study into the protocols for ET contact done on behalf of the National Security Agency actually! I think from memory this was done by the Rand Institute and is now in the public domain.
Basically theres a formular, calculating estimates in contact with civilisations in other star systems, and the later part of the calculation is based apon the ability to survive the developement of their species, thus outgrowing the planet and being capable of interstellar flight.
Long calculation, long odds, but a massive list of potentials.....
"If all the matter in the universe except the nematodes were swept away, our world would still be dimly recognizable, and if, as disembodied spirits, we could then investigate it, we should find its mountains, hills, vales, rivers, lakes and oceans represented by a thin film of nematodes. The location of towns would be decipherable, since for every massing of human beings there would be a corresponding massing of certain nematodes. Trees would still stand in ghostly rows representing our streets and highways. The location of the various plants and animals would still be decipherable, and, had we sufficient knowledge, in many cases even their species could be determined by an examination of their erstwhile nematode parasites."
Just remember this... if all the nematodes disappeared from the soil, life in Earth, starting with the plants would begin to die.

Sorry, I thought you would get that, it was meant tongue-in-cheek, love. Don't you think every day is a day of observing stupidity? I only need get out of my driveway and not be far up the road before I see such examples.... and I haven't even gotten to work yet!!!
Scott "Dilbert" Adams maintains that we are ALL stupid, but of different things at different times, and I tend to hold with that philosophy... well, as best I can. I mean, c'mon.... there's stupid, yeah, and OMG... STUPID!!!
I swear that the only way things actually get done is by sheer accident!!

Now we are adults in whatever current condition that may be
Think long or not at all about this,
What is the superior species of life on this planet?
