You've really hit on something here Leo, and I think we've both seen it from both sides, and agree that they are BOTH uncomfortable old friend.

It's almost like public office. Those who are most qualified would never enter such an ugly arena.

That or (correct me if I'm wrong) Groucho : "I'd never want to join any club that would accept ME as a member"

I would like to say please, I didn't even know I was on the poll. I didn't find out until almost 36 hours after the poll was put on. I would not have expected my name to show up. And I surely would never want to hurt anybody. I'm sorry if I have!!! When I did find out it was from a friend on CS, the thread of the competition was so far down below I didn't even see it. This is nothing that has gone to my head, and as far as self esteem issues. I am going to be honest here and I have never mentioned this before on CS because it is private to me. I have self esteem issues due to my last surgery. That's all I will say on that, but I am working on it. So whether I am on that poll or not does not change the fact what I look like or who I am in my heart everyday on CS or in my real life. Oh gosh I'm rambling and not making any sense. I am a true believe the beauty lies within.

hug to everyone

I agree with you paws and unfortuneatly its the order of human nature and life. I hate being bombarded by the pretties asking me to rate them as well. Its their need. Personally I think dating sites would be better served without pictures, at least until people get to know what others are about. My decision to make friends first is at the edge of any desire I have here.

Sure attraction in the physical matters, but does vanity? popularity? I dont think so, but on the other hand we get to find out those who feel popularity and vanity to be issues of great importance to them. For me its about words, conveyance and being true to those words as much as possible. You wont find those things in vanity or popularity. It is a free site, freedom of speech and all, and thats dammed great I think. Let them have at it. If nothing else there's learning to be had.

Some of just weren't as blessed in the looks department, so be it, but they have other blessings, like humilty and openness, truth from the heart like you paws ... hurt is a sign... and also something that even good looking folks feel, its just for different reasons. Be curious about the pain I say.. wisdom comes from listening to your pain. I'm thinking you feel a whole better after openning up than any winner of a contest would...superficial never beats real, at anything.

One more point of rabble from me ... sometimes we just 'feel' left out when in all likelyhood jumping in was something we chose not to do. We make those choices because of 'who we are', not what we look like. Be you Paws, people notice.
peace cheers

Everyone here has to realize that most votes cast here on the poll are for people they know. The ones who pick through the rate the photo game are not here voting as they never drop by the forums to post often or at least are never obvious. I feel for every person not through to this round as they truly deserved the position (as fictional as it is) as much as any other. It is a game and I have not seen an uproar for the hug/kiss/smoooch/ etc the one above you threads if someone is left out. The persons on the finals may be feeling ashamed of what has befallen the ones that have gone already. Millions were not spent altering the looks of the ladies and gentlemen here, there is no after-market for the winner. Why should we pass shame on to those who remain in the poll when most had little to no idea they were even on the thing in the first place. There was no uproar at the onset to match what has begun tonight. It is all in fun here and should be taken light-heartedly. Regardless, it is already underway and will continue to the finish. I agree with paws in the aspect of competing as it truly does only create losers. But losing a fictional competition here is no loss. We have all gotten to know many of the 'contestants' here for searching profiles to better place our votes. We as a collective seem to have a distinct difficulty doing so without a serious push, perhaps the curiosity of this contest will have someone sharing themselves with another they never knew before from their interest in the vote. Everyone here is a true beauty just for showing up and sharing their experiences and kindnesses, and to run down a few who in all likelihood get the same amount of attention privately seems a true shame. I voted each vote for persons I know through forum or emails or whatnot. I know I have pushed the FishingMTgirl thing but it was entirely my idea to garner some positive and often goofy appeal for this contest. Shadow_Lover did not do this out of the need for hurt, or misery. Try to see this as what it really is.
