used to have a gun, never crossed my mind to use it and in the most tempting situations, i never remembered it, but of course thats because i wasn't carrying it .....or the story would have been different ..... i'm indifferent but i think its a bad idea 'cos if i always carried it, someone's blood would be on my head for sure ..... i would have used it .... so its a bad idea.

a friend of mine had buglars armed with knives break into his house. he had his gun under his pillow and they took it from there while he slept. he was held up with his own gun .... from a knife to a gun, he could have been killed.
his licence was revoked because he allowed his gun to be taken from him and when he appealed, the judge said he was ready to shoot someone which is why he had a cocked gun under his pillow ...... he still lost his licence ...

I have several. I am a business owner in a downtown area. I have a pistol permit and I usually carry it. I am well trained in its use although I pray to god I never have to use it. I also have a shotgun in my bedroom with a special load that will stop someone but will not go through a wall. I am also well trained on that.

While the shotgun is arguably the best home defense weapon, there are better options overall...like a poodle and a telephone. The poodle barks, you dial 911 :)

I like shooting. In many ways for me it is like how people enjoy bowling. It is a skill test.

Too bad it is nearly impossible to get a gun in Ireland :( Maybe you need to come visit love

It depends on the intent behind the gun.

Rifles for hunting: legal

Handguns and Military style weapons: Legal with serious restrictions.

People here in America take their right to bear arms for granted, without thinking about how it is for the majority of the rest of the world. We emphasize home defense in our rhetoric, but ultimately its a matter of liberty. Owning a weapon is not just a right, it is a responsibility. Irresponsible people should not be allowed the right, whatever the country they happen to reside in.

Here in Canada it is legal to own a firearm but you can't carry it around or use it to protect yourself like you can in the US. If someone breaks into your home you can defend yourself but only to a reasonable degree. Not with the intent to kill or anything like that.
I'm all for ownership but with neccessary training in safety, use and storage. There are way too many "accidents" every year due to stupidity, neglect and misuse.

I feel that I have a right to protect myself... possibly with a gun, sure, if need be.

For the most part... guns don't kill people - people kill people.

yes i agree. if one applies for a hand gun or any gun for that matter, they should by law be made to take a gun safety course BEFORE getting a license.
