Just a little data - hope it helps chill out a few of the comments here.
Washington — The United States is the single largest donor of foreign economic aid, but, unlike many other developed nations, Americans prefer to donate their money through the private sector, according to a new report published by a Washington research organization.
Of the $122.8 billion of foreign aid provided by Americans in 2005 (the most current data available), $95.5 billion, or 79 percent, came from private foundations, corporations, voluntary organizations, universities, religious organizations and individuals, says the annual Index of Global Philanthropy.
There are also plenty of comments especially by prominent Texas senators that all government foreign aid should be abolished. That it is misused, misdirected and basically does not work when the government is involved.
Have Fun all. I read a few of the early comments, but too much rhetoric, starting to sound like a bunch of US Senators on a Filibuster!

The United States finds itself in an Unusual position. Due to it's resourceful people, we have become a major world power. No matter what we do or say there will be an element that is jealous, rejects any status quo, or just like to stir the pot.
If the 2000 election results were invalid, show me proof, not allegations. It went through OUR legal system, it was upheld. I know of no GOVERNMENT that has protested the results in an official capacity.
Mr. Chavez has made a point out of provoking the US Government. So if the US is not sending him thank you notes and touting his ' democracy?', seems reasonable to me
I believe a little research would find that the State Dept. Has commented upon Zimbabwe.
American business explored and developed many many oil resources throughout the world, only to have their investments 'nationalized'. Maybe these businesses are too cozy in Washington DC, but I still resent the idea that after Americans put up the money did all the work some two bit Dictator comes along and legally steals it.
I find it amusing that so many will rip the USA, accuse it of the most outragous atrocities, then when there is a crisis expect the USA to fix it. Another thing, if the USA was actually as corrupt and oil/power mad as you imply, we'd just take what we want, world opinion be damned!

By no means did I intend any disrespect. I was merely trying to point out that the US directs much of its economic weight to its military and its global role as, for lack of a better term, watchdog. The huge investment in military spending would put serious drains on other nations economies, possibly detracting from services for the masses, and causing civil discontent. If you thought I was implying that these nations were in any way less productive in all phases of human developement, I sincerely apologize.
Thank you for your words and for understanding. So lets ask them this.If they hate us so much and our ways. Why do they want to come here?I wonder on this one.We placed ourself in the position to be looked to for help, but yet the hand that helps them they slap at.And you working immigration have some valuable input I would love to hear.Better than this kill kill kill.
But think about it , its a verrrryy scary thought.
The weapons of mass destruction rather call it " self destruction" generated by us under the excuse of protection is like " I want a pink bunny cos my neighbor has one ( i know this is kinda silly )"
But come to think of it , If we do not have anyone threatening us , we dont need protection in the first place !!! Maybe the sweetness around might get abnoxious. But , if we could come to terms with mans greed for power and domination which later translates to his people , state , country and further world .. isnt it like so many lives being played under the hands of a chosen few ??
On the contrast , when there are soooo many people who elect the chosen few , there are very few instances when we would pull them down or to the least " enlighten ' ourselves and develop some insight in to whats realllyyy essential???
Power or A place to live in a few hundreds of years time??

In an effort to avoid putting myself in the horrifying position of having stones thrown at me, just to be sure of my facts, I Googled it, and as we all know "Google is always right"---
The 2000 election results, by popular vote, after the Florida count was confirmed:
Bush: 50,456,002 47.87% Gore 50,999,897 48.38%
Gore actually won the popular vote, but because of the outdated and archiac electoral college system, Bush won the white house. As far as I am concerned, Gore won the election. I don't care about all the other bickering...he won.
So sorry to you I still retain my crown even if you from the Uk don't wanna know I got it.And the way you are acting is red china, communist does that ring a bell. And you post just to get me started thats not nice you know.I use have you in my top 10 now you have fell out of grace with me.Sunk to low rungs on the ladder cause you think its something to make a thread and bash away. Some of the best of the word live in the USA,too bad you can't see that.
I interrupt this thread to interject a laugh... Totally irrelevant to the thread, but wasn't worthy of its own thread, so I'm hijacking for a second (sorry, D!) The other day, we had an earthquake here. At work the next morning (Monday) a few of us were discussing our experiences (whether things fell off of shelves or not, etc.) and I mentioned how my bed was rocking and the headboard was banging on the wall a bit (yeah, I totally set myself up). A male friend of mine (we banter a lot) said "I'll bed that's the most action your bed has seen for awhile!" Ahhh...the sad, sad truth! I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
