Just talked with a buddy in Germany. The reason Solar Electricity in homes is taking off is because the government forces the utilities to "buy the electricity" generated back at a higher price than the home owner pays. But as soon as the government changes this could disappear. What do you think? Are we really willing to "pay" big money to go Green? Just curious.
We have lots of wind turbines here.. (i think they are beatiful to watch).. big giant ones on top of the hills..
and there are lots of homes around with smaller private ones in their gardens etc.
One day (when I move somewhere bigger) I would like to be able to get a turbine myself and I love the idea of harnessing the sun with solar roofing panels.
Ermmm... not that THAT had anything to do with buying it back.. or the government. but anyway..

I agree, something really neat about those wind turbines. Especially laying in the grass watching them slowly moving around, feeling the electricity pumping with every rotation
Yes, here in Germany you got more money for getting energy in the public energy-net. We have also solar cells on the house, but not for energy but for warm water. If someone put solar cells on the house, the government will pay more as the half of the cost for it. It's a advancement for ecofriendly. The same with all other energy efficiency measures for the house, you got a part payed from the government.
And my energy comes from a green company, only ecofriendly energy. No nuclear, charcoal or oil. And it isn't more expensive as the normal energy.
It is up to government and big business to initiate the changes that will eventually pay us all back in the form of more efficient economical and cleaner energy.
Once the larger masses do this the practice will become the most favorable and acceptable way of doing business. This will effect supply and demand which will make doing business the "green way" affordable for the common man and benefit the entire planet.
Apparently we're not even will to pay a little bit of money. I watched an interesting documentary called "Who Killed the Electric Car". There was alot of talk about Government, the Automotive Industry, and Major Oil Corporations; but the bottom line is we killed the electric car. Because not enough of us really cared enough to make it a viable option.
In South East USA, we some problems with some of the alternative electical production systems. Imagine a wind mill farm following a 100+ mph wind hurricane passing. What you would see is a lot broken turbine blades on the ground.
Also we get long periods of time with heavy overcast here. Yes I know....countary to what the Florida Tourism boards tell you to visit sunny Florida. But such overcast reduces the effectiveness of the solar electric systems. They still do place solar cells on the houses here and there is a state lawed utility pay back program on kwa going into the grid system.
The big thing that many here are looking at is the 'thin film' solar cells. They are low cost, light weight and very efficient in making electricity. So unlike the heavy solar cells, they are easy to place and will not weight down a roof.
On the electric car. A real question there for most American....that love our big hp vehicles is this. I am passing someone in a electric that I have been using for a time.......its batts are down.......and I am trying to get around a car doing 70 on a two lane road. I pull out to pass the guy, and don't have enough juice to go over 75. This is not a good situation.....as that 18 wheeler coming in the other direction at 75 gets closer and closer and closer.
The electrics and the hybrids have the range to do well. But do they have the horse power to survive on our roads? Where I live.......hemi power dual wheel drive cab trucks are a standard for many. Putting a electric on the road with them is like putting a lamb into a wolf convention. The lamb is not going to like the experience.

the electric car was not a viable option to begin with. The hybrid is much more suited to our highways.
The word "Lamborghini" is a babe magnet! Tell a young woman that you worked on a Lamborghini that day.....she will have instant attraction for you. Just don't tell her you work at a car wash.
