Gentlepaws, you can get arrested for this in the U.S. It's against a federal law. U.S. citizens are expected to waste as much energy as possible. It's part of the whole U.S. entitlement philosophy.

Metaphorically speaking or in this case, typing, corporations have had their lights out for years; it's one reason we're in the mess we are in now. Nevertheless, a good idea and worth the effort to endure, to bask in the silence from all the electronic white noise in our backgrounds even if for only one hour.
