I'm sure there is a man on this forum tonight who can help me with this.
I tried to change my outside light beside my back door and everything was going fine until I realized the new light mounts to the house differently than my old one so I will have to get my son to take care of that part.
My problem is I have already disposed of the old fixture so I can't put it back up. I can't leave the circuit breaker shut off because it shuts off my fridge also. And I can't just leave live wires hanging outside my back door.
Will it be safe if I simply make sure the light switch is in the off position or perhaps put the screw caps on the live wires?
I submit to you that that is exactly how most new homes are made here in america. you have nothing to fear. just wrap it with non-conducting tape. you'll know if you have the right kind, right away. good luck
Screw caps on the wires, tape the light switch to off and tell everybody in the house. Carefully fold the wires up and wrap them too if you can? But I'm not an electrician, just trying to help.

Turn the power off first, then cap the wires. Put electrical tape around any exposed wire. Then turn the power back on.
Assets52: What if I don't have any electrical tape? Is just capping them good enough?
My line of work.
Capping them for the time being is fine as long as you cut the wires back first. Cut them (with the power off) back to the rubber sheath. So no metal is showing. then cap them. It'll be fine.
