I used to have a little dog. since no one knew what breed it was we said she was an audi dog.

yes.. she gave us pleasure and very good times,

she didn't stop us getting lonely or angry or sad but she was great comfort, you could say anything to her and she would listen.

she was also very good as a hoover, she gobbled up all the crumbslaugh

ive got a dog, a cat, a rabbit and 2 rats. the dog is like a child and makes me smile all the time. the cat attacks people and is an embarrassment, the rabbit is boring and the rats, though the most interesting of rodents, stink.

rusty_knight: A woman makes a great pet - and with patience and understanding can be trained to not only hoover up the crumbs off the floor with the nice vacuum cleaner you so kindly bought her, but also trained to get you a nice cold beer from the fridge and pass you the remote control for the tv so you don't have to get up!

'morinings Rusty. Know of any good petshops around?

I have a little dog, and she's really great because you never have to feel really lonely (only after a certain amount of time, when you begin to wish your conversations were more two-sided...). The fascinating thing with pets - at least dogs, and also cats - that non-pet owners sometimes don't realize, is that you actually do communicate with each other. I understand what my dog wants most of the time, and she understands what I want. Although she is of a breed both smart and somewhat stubborn - so she doesn't always agree with what I want. To start with. laugh

Dogs are great for many things; companionship, exercise, playing games (like "run-for-your-life-out-into-the-garden-to-catch-that-plasctic-rat-that-was-just-trown-so-temptingly), keeping the floor clean, guarding the house (or at least pretend to sound like a big, bad barking dog - even though you know you really sound a little more silly than that) against predators like the mailman and other visitors, feetwarmers, food-tasters, etc, etc.

Nope,no Dogs allowed where I live.
Need permission to have a Cat.
Birds,I don't know,especially about the size I like,Parrots.

Need at least two of them since they are like Humans, getting lonely quite easy.
Then becoming quirky.
Two Parrots, bred in Captivity are being something in the Pricerange of a Rolls Royce. :)
Was thinking about taking the Hedge-Hog Hostage, the one that is slinking around the house at night, but he is happier outdoors I suppose.
Got to find out from Management what Pets are specifically allowed, then I might make a decision.
A Pet would liven up the Place some,no doubtconversing wave

Unless there`s a cat looking for a servant ... stick to feeding the birds down at Zurich lake!... at least they`re free, free to fly, and free as in no cost to you - just some stale bread! ... or take friends dogs for walks - if you dont mind picking up warm steaming dog poo in a plastic bag!... that cured me of offering free walkies!

rolling on the floor laughing I think it is forbidden to feed the Birds at Lake Zurich, you know,"Swiss Rule # ypcdferzuqm99",or "Whatever is not Compulsory is Forbidden"!.

Well then ... find a bird in town and feed her?....much more entertaining, a little more expensive, but then you dont have to feed her every day, just now and then........dancing

Pets are very nice! But I agree with you, the little hedgie is most likely a lot happier outdoors, than it would be in captivity.

cheers

yes here in basel i had to wait to get my own place before i got a pet but now the neighbours complain that it barks at the cats twice a day. mind you they also complain that i accidentally killed a rose in my garden and that i have dandelions growing-which i do on purpose for my rabbit so that flummoxed them-. now when they come round to complain i cry and they are off like a shot. way too much emotion going on here.
