Sommerauer71: 45 people dead.

Flying to the Canary Islands.

FYI folks.

Yes, one of the most horrific pieces of news ever. My thoughts go out to all the families/friends of the victims. How to reconcile such a thing?

About 153 dead and the rest quite severely injured/badly burned. Scary stuff. I always call my family and my son just before take off. Am leaving for o/s in 2 weeks. But what can one do? For those who pray, always say a prayer for those who travel, whichever mode.

stooie1971: checked Sky News, BBC News, The Times, Guardian etc, etc,

I'm totally gutted..... apparently it left the ramp at 1.05pm and returned 30mins later... on take off the left engine was on fire causing the aircraft to leave the runway and split into..

Also the were 2 young children aboard...

I must admit I have had tears in my eyes since your post and looking at the news.. I was online andenjoying the Olympic Games,

I am truly saddened... I have flown many times from Madrid to the Canaries... Spanair is a brilliant operator... I'm lost for words..

My thought's are obviously with the familys of those who have lost loved ones.

GODSPEED

Stu I am going to fly Spanair as well, just cheked my ticket...

Hi Claayerwave

Such tragedies always reminds me of making the most of our time here on this earth, and how in the blink of an eye, everything can change, forever.

Aww .. try not to worry about that.. The chances of anything happening are SO 'Slight' .. comfort

You have far more chance of getting wiped out driving into town today.

Air crashes are rarely really.. they just seem big because so many people die.

But not a fraction compared to the people that die daily around the world in car accidents.

comfort hug

Our national airline, qantas, is having their doors blow up mid air, wings fall off on the run way etc etc., ever since they get serviced offshore. I have to fly with this flippin' airline when I go to the outback for work, as recently as 2 wks ago, as that govt dept uses them! So when I smelt a burning smell recently, in the back of the jet close to where I was sitting, the woman sitting next to me also wondered whether it was the kitchen with the aftermath of the lunch served. Yep, I said, 'could be', but this is qantas, remember? We laughed. But it ain't really funny, is it?
