I know this will sound terribly hokey, but I work with special needs people and a lot of the time when it comes to anger, it's not that they won't hold their anger, but they can't,and they have no idea how offensive their behaviour is within our world of socially accepted behaviour. This also applies big time to a lot of people with whom we share our daily lives, not only people who have been identified as special needs. I know that doesn't help you much when dealing with an idiot boss, but maybe it will help you to not take his anger as a reflection of your abilities.
If all else fails and understanding is not enough to ease your day, then smack him....and eat lots of chocolate...it's what i do at the end of each teaching day....(not the smacking...but the chocolate)

"not take his anger as a reflection of your abilities." Hey, this is brilliant. But...isn't there a time when my anger is indeed a reflection of the "victim's" behaviour? Does your principle applie to all the angers? Is it always to do with the angry one? Then all is cool, nothing is wrong? Or time is no money?

you had me scratching my head on this one...wasn't quite sure...just didn't want anyone to feel that an idiot boss' anger (and we have all had those bosses who will never be happy regardless of how well we do our work) should be sad about themselves or mad or whatever...If you suck at work and your boss is screaming...another story...lol
I'm just gearing up to go back to teaching after 7 weekss of the summer holiday off and reminding myself that when I go back, not to take any of the anger that WILL be directed at me personally, so I guess it was on my mind when i saw the comment about people's anger
