before you think i am making light of this know i am not. everyone else read on.

this came about due to a convo with a co-worker earlier today where discussed if someday where instead of people actually remembering what happend let alone giving respect to all the victims, heroes, etc. this day shall be turned into a partying/shopping sort of holiday, like memorial day has become so what are your thoughts?

Patriots Day to me is like a Memorial Day

There are so many Americans who are not in the military, but have lost their lives trying to save lives.

An attempt to get into the head of the terrorists??? It could work... But instead of selling cars and furnicher at discount, they could sell shotguns and tasers and discount head banger

Forgetting what occurred is not the right answer. I am a Canadian and our day of Remembrance is not a national shopping spree. Those who remember and those who need to be reminded of the tragedy of war and death all come together and share a silent vigil. We all go to work or school or whatnot and the day continues as usual because in essence it is a reminder that you never know when it will happen. There is no honour to the fallen or lost from 9/11 to make this some sort of materialistic endeavour. There are enough holidays for shopping. Unless you mean buying food or supplies for the families of others affected by similar horrors such as Katrina?
Just imagine 50 years from now and you being someone who lost a loved one, how would you feel to see them scampering about, frolicking and shopping rather than remembering what happened?

JMO

God rest their souls, those who died so needlessly on 9/11.rose sad

I don't think this day will ever become a day like memorial day... over 5,000 people died on American soil because terrorists came to OUR LAND and killed OUR children, husbands, wives, brothers, sons, moms, daughters, sisters, brothers, our firefighters, cops, among others.... Our nation will never be the same. We cannot go into an airport and look at someone without thinking "is that person a terrorist" no matter what he/she looks like, what they are wearing, or who they are with. We are scared to travel into other coutries because we feel that this may happen over there as well.
There is more hatred now than there ever was before towards the middle east, so I don't think that this day will ever be forgotten for what is was, is and will always be to us, a day of horror, terror, and sheer hell.

To the victims of 9/11
May you all Rest In Peace and may you all never be forgotten, you are all in our prayers and thoughts.......

To the familys of the victims

Our prayers and thoughts are with you all....

Very well said. That, in essence, should be the spirit associated with 9/11. Again, JMO.

When I die I want my friends to remember the good times and not moping around feeling sorry for themselves...Bit like funerals in New Orleans or a trad. Irish wake..

Celebrate the life not cry about the death...
