I´m a carnivore, my stomage gets upset when I eat stuff containing gluten and also some vegetables. Many of the foods we eat now a days are not fit for consumption for certain folks. It all depends on your ancestors. Almost all tribes in Africa cant drink milk without getting sick. Massais can however since they have been nomadic heardsmen for thousands of years. In Sweden many are intolerant to Wheat products due to the fact it´s a fairly new grain. We tolerate Rhye much better. I´m not in to dairy products much either. I guess my ancestors where hunter, gatherers and not farmers.
I've actually heard of this...my family on my mother's side swear by this...however...to hear them tell it, we are decendants of the original habitants of the West Indian Islands...which were Carib Indians...and they were CANNIBALS!!
Don´t let her, it´s not good for you growing up to consume only green stuff. There have been cases of malnutricon when vegeterian parents forces their will on their children. Some to the extent that they have been hospitalized and taken away from parents. A relative to one of my ex´s decided to become veggie at the age of 7. She is know 18 and severly underweight and also 15 cm shorter then her sister. If you are over 18 and by your own will and not your friends then I guess it´s OK to become a veggie. Don´t kid your self though that you will live a healthier life. A balanced diet is always best, soya is not enough for protein. Just open your mounth and look in a mirror and you will se what your teeth are for, eating anything like a pig. LOL. You cant fool the DNA.
Thanks Joovist...i was very concerned but had nothing but my parental instinct to go on...at least now i can discuss it better with her (I have to choose my battles carefully!!)
My ex husband and I were vegetarians, and we started off raising our girls that way. I was off all animal products for one reason or another for many years, until I had problems with colitis and found out that carbs were apparently contributing to the problem (and no, I don't have celiac, that problem with wheat.) I had to stop eating everything but animal protein, and had been lactose intolerant for many years by that time, so I was on an extremely restricted diet.
Since my surgery 2 years ago I can eat everything, although I seem to still be carb sensitive in that they make me gain weight ,and I'm still not crazy about dairy, after being off it my entire adult life. (Lactose intolerance is in the colon, so since I don't have one anymore... I do enjoy the occasional piece of pizza, and some really good ice cream. )
My younger daughter was about 6? when I had to start eating only meat, and she wanted to try it. She loves it, but my older daughter won't touch it, she doesn't even want to touch anything meat has touched - lol - including dirty dishes.
For her own sake, I hope she grows out of that squeamishness about touching it.
If you give them protein pills, they would in the real sence eat meat anyway so what´s the point. Some good ol fat, that´s what´s needed to grow up to the full potential. To much protein though and you will end up with a flagpole like me for a kid. I had meat every day at the table growing up since my fathers best fried was a butcher. LOL. 6,3"
Metabolism is actually something that you can change. It´s not only genetical. Your body adapts to the food intake to a certain degree. I would guess that your younger daughter is more active and running around more then the older one. Long time energi is stored in your fat. Any physical activety under 1 - 1 1/2 hour doesn´t burn fat you only use up your short term storage( I forgot the english word for it). Eat some suger or pasta and it´s replentished. A veggie just hasn´t got the potential for really long term work out. Any long distance swimmer(english channel) will tell you that it´s imperative to have exess fat to cope with exhaustion and cold. A veggie wouldn´t get past the first marker buoy. LOL.

And is anyone opposed to someone being a vegetarian...and if so why?
