I am getting messages from people all over the world. Some are just friendly messages and that's cool but some seem to want to get serious.

I do say in my profile that I would relocate if I ever found that special guy. I don't expect some guy to give up his career and move to my small town.

Still, I wasn't expecting dating offers from around the globe. I am flattered and all but I was expecting guys from say.... . Pittsburgh or New York to write me, not Japan and Australia.

How do people build a relationship with others if they are that far away from each other? I asked a couple of the guys what they expected since they were in another country and their response was that they would fly over to see me. They sound like sweet guys but that would put a lot of pressure on me.

Has anyone here dated someone really far away and made it work? Would you date someone far away?

My definition of far away:

A-there is an ocean between us
B-more than 2 tanks of gas to drive
C-you need a long nap after the trip

Mindy,

You have a good head on your shoulder there. Be careful...the fact is that you don't know anyone on these forums from adam, so what's to say that someone who wants a relationship with you is a control freak or worse....
There are also scammers out there who will do anything for a buck!
EG "I'm on my way, but I'm a bit short of money...."
Take your time and be careful.

I am careful of the scammers. I won't be sending any money and any guy that comes to see me will have to pick me up....at home.....where my mom and dad and dad's shotgun live. :-)

Be careful of those guys who are willing to fly over to see you...if they ask you for the money for the ticket, they're a scammer.

I love your definition of far away!

I didn't think that I'd consider it, but there are a lot of great guys that live quite a distance from me. The only thing is, for me it would have to remain long distance for another 4 & 1/2 years, maybe longer, unless they could move here. I won't move that far from my kids while they're in high school/jr high, and after that it depends on whether or not they go away to college or stay here, and how I feel at that time. But, with the right person, I guess one would figure it out. If it's meant to be, it will be...so I'm not completely closed to that option anymore. Still a bit leery of it, but not closed.

My way of thinking , if your trully looking for a forever lasting relationship ,one must not think of the distance but rather look in to the future.....is the traval all worth it or will it be a waist of time...you will never know if you dont try, but you do know what happens if you dont tryconfused....look back five years ,are you still doing the same things???????........Capt lost Soul..

Mindy,

I have no doubt whatsoever that you'll find Mr Right in the US.
You are a very attractive young lady and i'm sure there are a few intelligent young men in the US that would be very happy to hook up with you. Just be patient and you'll find the man of your dreams.

Take care

*looks at google map*

Yes, that is far. So how do you do it? Do you meet each other every so often? Is one of you going to move to be near the other one?

It seems like it would be hard to build a loving relationship with someone if you are not going to see them in person very often. I have no experience with this so I am asking, not stating as fact.

thx

I have the patience and I am in no hurry. I have to the end of next week to find a husband.
I just don't want to get involved with someone that I can't be with a few times a week. But, I don't want to turn down a gem of a guy either just because he lives far away.

I have dated women far away before and it isn't that much different than close apart from a lot more talking untill you really get to know them,
it is a good idea to talk to one of they're parents if possible too as you will get a good idea of wether they have told you the truth about everything,
also it helps to have a cam so you can see it really is the person and once you really are sure then you can meet,
altho it sounds more difficult than it is to meet somone close its really just more travel time if there is no work issue or similar then its just a bit of extra travel time to me.

Hi just wondering why you put on your profile that you would relocate ''far away'' (love your definition by the way) . Itwould be a lot easier to find someone nearer home as there would be less obstacles in your way what with the price of gas and all but if it's meant to be it's meant to be and love can be found in the most surprising places.
Take a little island just off your east coast called Irel........... nah wont go there but interesting thread

cheers

Thx for the advice.
I do have a built in cam on my applemac laptop. I will be meeting NO ONE without first camming with them. I think being a long distance apart would be different. I like being with my boyfriends, in person. I want to touch, smell, and do "stuff" with them.

??? I didn't put that on my profile. I said I would relocate for the right guy. I didn't say anything about far away.
I know it would be easier to find someone close to home. That was the whole point of my OP.
