spiritual but not religious! -I chose this too.Bcoz, I've explored few religions and various paths and now follow a universal mystical spiritual path, that gels with all religious teachings but go beyond their narrow confines and teaches something truly spiritual, at the level of soul.
Would be interesting to see other thoughts.

Dear Simran

You are from India where there is variety of beliefs and Gods to worship. That's a great idea you have. You are an intellectual.

Religion is for people who are scared of going to hell

Spirituality is for those who have already been there.

You've got to explain to me how you would be bound to a belief, and not be religious. Done, practiced religiously, sounds like a religon to me.

Remember friends! I follow some principles in my life specially I believe "My God who always keeps eye on me" but I don't follow any religions, coz it limits some thoughts in some ways. please be a bit wiser and put you helpful ideas.

The best definition that I have found for myself and have explained to my friends.

My belief is that in my heart, I have followed the right path, I know that I am on the side of good and will follow the morals that will dictate how I act with the norm of society.

Religion is a doctine that many feel that you must follow to get to the other side. That is where you run into the headaches.

Every religion starts to point out that they are the 'true' path and you must follow it to get to the other side.

I like to use the analogy that at one time TRUE Religion is a big glass coffee table. Someone threw a brick and shattered the table.

Everyone started to grab a piece and declare they had the true religion. When in reality, everyone had a peice of that religion.

Once all the fighting is done and everyone starts to compare notes, just maybe that coffee table can be put together.

Until then, I know in my heart, I can get to the other side without having to follow a 'certain' path.

When the holy rollers start to thump me, I tell them I preach the Church of Roddenberry and that Kirk, Spock and Bones are the Father, the son and the holy ghost. That usually quiets down the masses. grin

But this all my own opinion and should not be used to start a flame war.

-Robert

Oh, one last thought. I came up with this one during a long night of insomnia.

If God gave man free will, to allow man to do what he wants, then why do we (Humans) feel the need to judge someone, if God didn't judge them, so what makes us better then God to judge someone.

People who choose that, are usually either confused, or they just don't want to beleive that there are rules, in which THEY should live by, But they like the idea of "heaven". Most of them are self-centered and put themselves on a pedastal over others ( where as they can do no wrong) JMO..cheers

"coz it limits some thoughts in some ways.", and possibly the root of your concern. Your God, your religion, binds you of its creeds, just as its creeds allows the freedoms, and liberties, pleasing to the God of your religion. When looking at the beliefs, the creeds, of other religions their bindings, its do's, and don'ts, put into question what you have lived, and learned thru life. That, of itself, is a good thing because it questions your faith, and places within your grasp, the ability to learn the Truth. A personal responsibility to learn the Truth, what is of God's passion, and what is of mans passion claiming to be of God. While man may use Gods Word there will always be errors in his message if it is not completely of a God, that keeps an eye on the people. Put yourself outside of all the noise, pray, and research history, religion, nations that have risen, and fallen, of their god, or without God. Which have endured struggles while its people prospered, and which have struggled while its leadership prospered.

Perhaps this might help…Spiritual is the depth of the ocean, Religion the waves. Not separated really except that the waves are affected by the cycles of nature. Just as, Religion is affected by human nature and our sometimes erroneous perception of the source.

I chose it because I'm not Christian, and I accept the beliefs of many spiritual paths. I'm very deeply Spiritual...but I am not a follower of any organized religion. I follow my own Path.
