No, the most important thing a father can do for his children is to love his children unconditionally
TeArawa: Does that mean they can't love their childrens mother anyway?
If the father still loved the mother but was not living with her, that is not really going to induce a particularly happy relationship, as presumably the mother does not love the father, if they loved each other one would assume they would live together, and unrequited love stifles the one from finding true love elsewhere.
A father or mother who is in love with a different partner can be a happy parent

I think this is a never ending story ...
As long as nobody suffers (especially children) and love is the keyword in a relationship, thats the way things should work out (in my oppinion).

I see it a little differently. There are many shades of love depending on our perception of love that is usually shaped by our own experiences or frame of references and can depend highly on where we are viewing it from.
Unconditional love however needs no attachments to be experienced in my humble opinion.
Although romantic love may no longer exist in a relationship, there can exist between two couples the unconditional love that I am referring to.
A kind of love that includes and is not limited to....Kindness, compassion, respect and care just to name a few. Which does not necessarily mean they need to live together.
