vonney: emotions are good if they help enchance a post but are off no use if the poster is using them because they are not articulate.

may not travel too well

I remember when I first started using them,

thought it was like a new toy,

I mean it is harmless fun!

If you want to use them do,

if not don't ,

its really that simple ,

just because 2 people on here don't like them,

should every1 stop using them ,
when I write an essay for uni,

I don't use emoticons ,
when I have a meeting with some1 ,
I don't use emoticons,
when I go to bed and fall asleep.
I dont dream in emoticons ,
so like why can't I use them here

each to his own surely ?
it is harmless fun, they are fun to use, and cute as heckrolling on the floor laughing

lusciousmile: I have no problem with them. When a person realises that 99.9% of forum members use an emoticon or two, every now and then, and always gets upset by this, then they should probably move on to Msn or Yahoo messenger, with the other .1% that feel the same way. With 5 friends on yahoo, it's easier to monitor and have these limitations work. It is much better than whinning about it, every other second, insulting CS in its entirety (this would include CS staff)!

Well Luscious.

How You Doin'..............Phew didn't need an Emoticon for that.

I did read on other threads some people givin out about their use but I took it they were only directin

it at the person they were speakin to confused

I use them..............should I be annoyed ?

Anyway ta for your input as you always seem v fair minded to me.

cheers

I like them. I don't care if some people excessively use them or don't use them.

I'm too cool to be annoyed by emoticons...

Hi Jan,

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I generally only use them with accompanyin text I think but never in a mean and spiteful way.

God at least I hope not.

I would think that they would help reinforce our views which should be delivered in our spoken

language.

vinny1967: Hi.

I agree it can be hard to converse in them.

A lot of the Forums can be Light hearted and the use of them I find entertainin.

In some of the more serious threads they are not used so much.

Maybe it's a question of someones time they are willin to devote to their answer and Emoticons

help.

Indeed.

There are many threads here that are serious and emoticons can have their place, in that they reiterate a person's point.

From a fun aspect, they are great, the odd tongue one, and a grin, this onegrin which I quite like.

But I do find it hard, to enter a thread, where there is nothing other than emoticons and no words.

So, I just do not bother.

Having said that, I can understand that people who are learning the language use them as a way of expressing something, hell, I learnt a new language, I began with pictures and children's books. I learnt it as I teach my students the English language.

To be clear, I have no problem with them, but I prefer words and good discussions.

I commented about it, and no anger was in the post, but got no response. The comments from the really annoyed ones, got a quick response though.

dunno

It has been going on for ages, and the complaining was not directed at the particular person, before. My level of intelligence has been judged on an emoticon i used some time back, by people in the .1% category, by the way.

When i get pissed off at you, i won't come on here and say 'white people are stupid', get my drift?
