jbibiza: Philosophy is a science... the word means "love of knowledge" You have just stated exactly what a scientist does... it´s all about coming up with theories and proving or disproving them. The big ones like how did the universe happen... have many theories and they are still coming up with new ones and we don´t know if any of them will be proven beyond a doubt.

Philosophers and Scientists are both people who search for truth and knowledge... I can´t imagine a better pair to have great discussions.

hmmm Well, the classification of philosophy has been debated for quite awhile...

While believing that useful distinctions between philosophy and science can be drawn - science involves the study of certain empirical matters, whereas philosophy guides that study and evaluates the knowledge thus obtained...you wouldn't bring philosophy into the question about whether or not a particular circuit design will cause light, for example - I tend to agree that the *essence* of both is the study of reality, and there is no reason that philosophy should not employ scientific methodology in arriving at its truths.

I got you I was just giving you are bad time not being serious. I am sure there are plenty of ism and in a sense Philosophy could be approached from a very analytical mindset just as the Sciences.hug

... or in some cases... science can be very similar to Philosophy in that they work with theories that may never be proven absolutely...wink laugh

Absolute Proof is pretty damn hard to come by for anything...but it's good to keep in mind that very concept owes its existence to philosophy!smitten wave wine

Even if there is Absolute Proof of anything the interpretation of facts at times can be incorrect or incomplete and subjective.

Right - and science can't tell us anything about "subjective interpretation" or any kind of interpretation. The correct interpretation of evidence - and even the idea of evidence itself - is philosophic in nature. That's what I meant when I said they're really two sides of the same coin...

Philosophy=the science of Thinking.
Philosophy is actually supposed to teach people to Think.
