I would like to say that you and your family would be most welcome in ireland. i live in dublin and there are many different nationalities living and working here now.
i my son's(6) class there are more children from non irish families than irish and thay are doing great.i think its great that children grow up with a mixture of friends from around the globe.
you have different nationalities working everywhere in dublin and all over ireland.

With the best of intentions here, but most of us have heard the tales of Americans claiming to be Irish due to a great great great great great grannie, owning a copy of the Quiet Man, drinking Guinness, etc; you get the picture. Some years ago, the West of Ireland was overrun with people from all over who thought they could just settle in, and it is hard, very hard. Irish won't take issue with you for being American per se, but it isn't a case of arms wide open lol

Dusty, on a practical level, have you thought it out? Where will you live? Kids need school, you will need work, have you a work permit or green card or a passport for you and your kids? Irish Immigration controls have tightened up greatly in the last few years so it may be harder than you think.

and may be of a little help to you.

Most claims I would bet would be true as far as ancestry goes, there were a lot of irish that fled here and yes even though they/we are mixed irish american we are still proud of both and don't need an ireland person to welcome us irish/americans so to say she will not be welcome with open arms you are right and it is ashamed, a lot of irish are cultish in a way imo, but the ones I have become friends with are very open with their hearts, minds, and yes arms so Dusty If you want to move to ireland and have planned it out then I say go for it girlfriendyay comming from a distinctly old irish/american named womanlips

Irishlass, you ain't Irish unless you have your passport. Certainly, you may have your family roots here and it is lovely to see you have pride in your roots but unless you have the wee book from Iveagh House, you ain't Irish. As it is, you are not even Irish from marriage alone so those who wedded are not offered the protection of State that they think.

Dusty, think long and hard before you up roots and move here; for all you know you may not even be eligible for citizenship so look it up first.

And "YOU" are full of it, I am distinctly of Irish you surprise me by going and running your mouth about me and my heritage when you know nothing about me or my name....confused And if you must know my family were probably more important than yours.I have my passport so you would do a wise thing in the future of thinking and not jumping to conclusions saves a lot of grieflips

You really are as dumb as you act, Lass. Reality check, you don't know nothing about anything. Some of us live here, you don't and that is something you ought to think about; we know a lot more about things here in the country you call "home". You can call me rude as much as you like, if that is what you call being told a home truth or two, good.

Do you know if Dusty can actually move to Ireland, yes or no? Does she have any job to move to? Any place to live, job to earn money, family to move with her? If she hasn't got Irish citizenship, then the simple fact is that she hasn't got the right to move here. if she has, then there isn't any issue other than the many practical issues. Maybe she has thought it out in which case it is her issue. However, if she hasn't, it is going to make life a lot harder for her.

If you bothered to look at her profile, she says she drives a truck and is pregnant with a kid. She doesn't appear to have a qualification so it isn't as if she is walking into a high end job or being head hunted to come work here or to get a work permit easily. Living in Ireland is very expensive, we are a high tax economy when compared to the US and living expenses (rent, utilities, food, fuel etc) will be higher. I gave her two links to look at; one for the government department who deal in employment and one that may assist her with passport applications; she is going to need them if she hasn't yet looked at establishing passage.

Have you any practical advice to offer Dusty?

Actually, one thing that can make Ireland a lot better is a huge influx of other people and cultures - the more immigration the better

irishlass45: Like they had a choice in the say of staying or not, as far as my poisonous attitude I don't listen to anybody calling me dumb and getting away with it and I doubt you would either, how dare someone who does not know me to call me such a nasty word! don't know where you are comming from lady but you don't know me to talk to me like that either, I did not have an attitude until your friend gave me one with his underlying warnings of not comming there for the lady in question, I can understand why he said what he said about her stituation and that is his opinion but he could have just said nothing at all and hints would have been taken by a certain party for the people that would not have responded.

Without getting involved in a b**chfight, I will point out that Losty wasn't warning Dusty not to come here - he was just informing her of facts which need to be considered. Such as the visa situation. One of my friends is going out with an American girl and at the moment they basically have to work a long distance relationship because she can't get an Irish visa, he can't get an American visa. Both college graduates, both upstanding citizens (well....) but the reality of the situation is that visa's aren't all that easy to come by. Crazy really when you think about it. The 2 of them met in Vietnam and lived together in Asia for years without any problems. Then they come back to the west and neither can get visa's for the other's country....

Madness.
