brandnewstart: well i was smokeing since i was 7 and i hate to say it but i drank like a fish too and i quit both of them cold turkey so it is possible so just never give up when you want something bad enough nothen is to hard

Not to be judgemental but how can a 7 YO kid be a smoker? Did you drink at 7 also? Where were the people whos' job it was to guide and protect you? BTW, you seemed to have developed a very strong charactor which is typical of someone who's had it rough especially in childhood. I tip my hat to you sir! handshake

whitechicken: I have quit smoking for over 2 years now. You want to know how? COMMIT LOZENGERS. I know everybody is saying its still not quitting but actually it is. My doctor said smoking cigarettes are the worst thing to do but the commit is fine its just being addicted to the nicotine and its not the nicotine that kills its the smoke. Truthfully it costs more for the nicotine but I can breath, I know Im not causing my lungs harm, and it sure beats the cravings for a cigarette. If I were to have a choice whether I could have a cigarette or commit I would choose the commit hands down. They work THAT GOOD!!!!!!!!
Nicotine kills just as sure as the Smoke.doh
Creates Platelets in the Blood, and we all know where that leads to.
Restricts your Blood-vessels.!
So it ain't just the smoke you have to be concerned about!conversing

I have an nero surgeon in Boston who is the top surgeon and he told me that yes nicotine does have some effect but any where near as risky as smoking cigarettes. If nicotine was so bad they wouldnt offer it to patients in the hospital.

Big_John: I wish you luck in trying to stop. I come to this Thread from a different point of view. A couple years ago I had to make the decision to stop the medical activities that was keeping my brother Alfred alive. He died five minutes later from his lung cancer. Two years ago the love of my life, Liz, died from lung cancer from her smoking. I was holding her hand as she pass away and I listened to her take her last breath. The last six months of her life was horrible for her and the people around her. When you died from lung cancer it is not pretty and it doesn't happen quickly.

I wish all of you smokers well. I do not want you to go through what Liz & Alfred had to endure and for sure I do not want your love ones to go through what I did. Please try to find the will power to stop.

For the ones of you who love to smoke and will continue I do not wish to interfere with your decision. This was just a comment from my heart.

I am sorry for your loss and thank you for for those thoughts.
