I get mail, often quite nicely worded ... but the strangest thing ... a lot of them write I with lower case. Is this a normal thing generally? I just delete these as coming from who-knows-where-types .....

Would any normal educated literate person write like this?

For example - "i am divorced and i live xxxxxx and i would realy like to get to know you blah blah blah ... i i i i `s"

Huh?confused

(Wedy you are excused, everyone knows you dont know what a capital i is anyway)cheers

Marki. But then again your mother tongue is not english is it? I`m more talking about people from the english countries .. UK, USA, etc.

And also, I do not wish to offend the regular forum writers who do this .... these are mails from strangers, and they could be writing from anywhere.

If an english speaking person were writing to another english speaker is it not more normal to use the appropriate acceptable writing style?

If I were sending first time mail to someone, especially someone I did not really know and whom I was interested in, I would make the extra effort to make sure that it was grammatically correct, with correct spelling, all the Is dotted and Ts crossed. It is a first impression after all. But when texting or using msn with good friends I do not always bother to make this effort.

I am curious. Is the personal pronoun 'I' capitalized in all languages?

It is odd though about the lower case i thing.

Thank you for your input Immanuelle. I only know that in German - "ich" is written just like that, no capital.... same in Afrikaans in South Africa - "ek". English I on its own is written capital, or "I`m" never never with a small "i

These mails will use a capital at the beginning of a sentence - (normal) - but the "i" is what is puzzling me.

I know that Americans write with a lot of abreviations, but looking at the Intl Forum most of them use capital I.

Aussie are much worse in abbreviations, who care!!! its only a letter from i to I,

its the most common word in English to be used, so most just put it down as i....

I might think otherwise if all the email was poorly lay out, with no effort in it... but not just a letter, as explained...dancing

PS. isn't it funny, I just did a spell check on abreviations, and its spelt with 2 B's, not 1...

doh Oh dear, so what you`re saying is ... I gone and deleted all those most delightful looking guys emails thinking they all just after my money!!!!! (hyuk hyuk - thats "laughing" in swiss-german).

Ah so, after all my excellent schooling and paying attention to grammar, i just forget all that and start thinking i should maybe pay attention to these wild declarations of devotion i get thru emails? Okay, gonna try that. cheers

But, I`m still confused how a person can get thru University Degrees and still write with "I" in lower case? Even I write I in capitals, and I`m not THAT educated!
