Let every man be occupied in the highest employment of which he is capable and die conscious that he has done his best.
--Sidney Smith

Doing something that we feel good about never loses its importance to our lives. And it need not be a prestigious occupation for our work to be important. In fact, who are we to decide what kind of job is truly important? The most menial of tasks may have a profound impact on a particular man or woman today, and that's what really counts in God's grand scheme.

It is said by some that the highest order of employment is the offering of love and acceptance to the people on our paths today. For us to define employment solely in terms of career is shortsighted. Every minute we're awake we're busy with something, and that means we're employed.

A broader definition of employment gives every one of us a chance to put in a productive day. Knowing that our presence, our words, our willingness to listen to someone else has made life better for them makes it better for us, too.

I now have the most difficult jod I've ever had. That is
taking care of me. Might sound funny to some, but it is
embarking on different territory for me. I have always
been so busy taking care of husband, kids, family and
friends. Back then I did not ever even think that maybe
I needed to slow down and take care of myself just a
little. Now I have time and not sure how to handle it.

T/Y HJ, I am sure that is not exactly what you had in mind
with this thread, but with my sleep deprived mind that
is where my thoughts went to.

You also have been called for a very special job and that
is taking care of your elderly Mother. A lot would find
a reputable nursing home as they would not have the time.
Don't ever cut yourself short on thinking about you and
trying to find time each day for you. After all you are
a very important person also.teddybear

To me any job is a good honest living. No one is beneath anyone. We need even the lowest jobs, for all of us to have our fancy life of running water, trash service, electricity, clean schools etc.

I think every one that works should just be proud they have done a part of all we have. And making a living makes us feel worthy that we are doing our best to have a good life.wink

Back in the days I was jumping out of perfectly good airplanes (for a mere $55.00 a month extra) from 1250 feet, I would yell "I DIDN'T SAY GERONIMO, I SAID I DIDN'T WANNA GO"...sigh

and also, for us to define employment in terms of 'Gods plan' is equally shortsighted - nowadays, kids are encouraged to make career plans - to remove personal decision from this is to assign us all to a life of drudgery and stifled existence

Entreprenuerialsm - I think its wrong quite honestly to accept your lot and never rise above your station in life - what a load of poppycock!!!!! Listen to your own inner voice - ignore it to your peril..

I love your daily stuff HJ but do take exception to some of it..... wave

I am grateful I am "old & senile". Back in my day we were not taught to stay ahead of the Jones', taught we had no need to try and impress another. We were taught to go out and do an honest days work for an honest days pay..sigh

I do not mind you taking exception to some of my post. I would be a fool to expect others to agree with me all the time. Differences is what makes the world go around..hug

Yep, they did furnish a chute. Back in my days it was the old T-10 with a T-7A reserve..mumbling

Well it's better than ALMOST having a parachute, that would be like almost working a spiritual program.

Tell me about it....some days after a long days work I'll walk into like a restaurant or something, and people will look at me like,''Why do you look so tired?''

It's like.....''UMMM.....I worked hard?!''

So true, Lela. I've always told my sons that I don't care if they grow up to be doctors or janitors...what I do care about is that they're happy. I just want them to grow up to be happy people who love life...and I'm glad that's what I've grown up to become. I've worked at everything from waitressing and tending bar to driving a taxi...and been in management, and office work. I can tell you I don't like the stress of being high on the ladder, I prefer being on the lower rungs. And I've always talked to the people that so many ignore...maintenance, janitors, etc. I've never considered myself above or below anyone. That won't change as a Doctor of Naturopathy. As you said, it takes it all to make life as a community of any sort work.

hug
