I think it is fine, to a point. I enjoy holding hands, arm around one another, little pat or pinch on the behind or a little kiss.
But when I'm walking through the mall and see some couples who are so entangled in one another that you can barely tell where one ends and the other begins, then I say, hey go get a room.
I don't like to see excessive groping in public unless it's on a college campus. Kissing is cool though. I am a college senior and that's all they do here is grop in the dorm halls, and rooms, and outside, and cafeteria, and....you get the idea

I think its lovely to see displays of affection to loved ones in public but, yes, within reason. Chewing someone's face off is not really necessary, is it?
Holding hands, a kiss, hug or even a touch on the bum is fine by me.
The overly enthusiastic displays often come from the younger members of society. Being part of a relationship is recognised as a very grown-up thing and they hope to validate themselves in others' eyes as an adult, of course. As one matures, one doesn't really feel they have anything to prove to others. And so, in moderation.
Its always nice to see a happy couple in love though....

Years ago, one of my hangouts was the "Boni Vino" club at Wabash & Van Buren. Probably no longer there.

I totally agree with you. In public it should be sweet, romantic...not steamy. Save steamy for at home.
