Such a bad character trait to have.
Is it as bad if its an isolated occurrence or would you feel its an inherent trait in the person?

I dont watch any of the soaps tongue

I found myself to be feeling jealous of my friend who had the baby 2 months ago. But that was mainly down to my broodiness. Found out today she is getting married in 8 weeks time. I tell you, Im torn between being deliriously happy for her and being crushed by jealousy. And I hate how I feel about one of the people who had been one of my closest friends for 14 yrs.

If it makes them posessive and controlling, it's a terrible trait to have, especially if they don't know they have a problem. But we can all suffer the odd pang I think. We feel it and then forget it. We don't let it dictate to us.

I think in the way you're talking about the jealousy can serve a purpose - it's a reminder that your life isn't quite living up to the "life plan" you've mapped out at some time. So it can help motivate you seek out the things that are missing or reassess what that life plan is - we sometimes find ourselves living to a set of standards that are not realisitic or simply outdated.
Inherent jealousy usually shows in insecurity and general begrudgery towards most people and I certainly don't think you're like that (from your posts here).
Jealousy in little pangs is quite natural.

I think we all suffer from a bit of Jealousy once in a while, "oh if only that was me." But in most cases it passes quickly enough.
Where it becomes a problem is when you start to dislike a person just because their life looks to be so perfect and yours isn't. Wishing that some disaster would befall the object of your jealously.

Just remember, you have no idea if their life is perfect or not, you have no idea what goes on behind closed doors or what goes on in their heads. For all you know, they could be jealous of the life you have.

Jealousy in a relationship WILL destroy it, no question about that.

Jealousy, or if it is only an occasional feeling, "envy" of a friend/acquaintance would definitely spur me on to make changes in order to achieve my goals.

But in answer to the original question, I believe jealousy is inherent in a persons character.....and it's not a nice trait

I definitely dont wish even the smallest iota of unhappiness on this girl. She deserves every ounce of happiness in life. She is a true gem. I am surprised it took this long for someone to snap her up.

And I suppose a bit of it too is that she is getting married so soon and I probably wont be able to make it. blues
