As announced on all news stations and sites:
Canada to switch to plastic bills next year
The federal government announced earlier this week that Canada's paper-cotton banknotes would be replaced by newly designed plastic ones next year.
Apparently they are slippery and somewhat difficult to work with. This will be great for all of us in the retail industry or others who handle money ...and for consumers? Hell, I remember how hard it was for alot of old timers to adjust to the the loonie and toonie...This aughta be good!
For flipping sakes; maybe I am getting old...but why can't some things be left well enough alone? dunno confused

Ditto on leaving well enough alone.

BTW ... Quebec wants it's own currency. Quebec will be buying up all the Canadian Tire stores so it can use Canadian Tire money as it's own currency. grin

This is the first time I have heard of this. I cannot believe that they would have plastic money, especially on cold days will it crack.

I have seen one of those Australian bills. Yes, they are plastic and almost indestructible. I never found them slippery and really didn't feel any different than our bills. The guy who showed it to me tried to rip it in half just to prove it was plastic.

I think it will be a good idea, the bills lifetime will be a lot longer than what they are...especially for guys like me who like to leave bills in my pants pockets and then run them through laundry! laugh

I've heard the Province of BC is the best one for laundering money

according to the news they even used helicopters to transfer
the cash to the south
what do you know langleygirl,
on Christmas many boys from BC come to SK to gamble and I've seen the tables full of cash

...well from what I can gather, it really isn't that bad. One positive is that it will put an end to the counterfeit problem (which by the way, seems to be a bit of an issue up here - lots of face fives flying around!)
They will save money, not having to reprint new bills...

My goal, or one of many, is to save on of each bill and put it away, yep even a 100! May be a good investment for some day in the future angel

The government is always looking at new ways to improve the economy. Helping people with plastic money is a different approach. I cannot believe that they would consider this.
However when it comes to the government and its policies nothing surprises me. Again I agree with everyone on leave wellness alone
All the best to everyone.
Blessings and Loveconfused doh
