We all took the pith out of him but he was someone who did love the game. And Packer did recognise that and supported him though all those years. Oddly enough, his contact with Packer had a clause that said "Cannot be sacked."

Ian Chappell was a very good baseball player. It was his off-season game and was asked a few times to have a go at playing professionally in the USA. But he loved criket more.
