RE: City of God (Cidade de Deus)

Visually stunning film from Brazil/Brazil. Fascinating and complex storylines. Film subject matter includes The Favelas (Brazilian/Brasilian hilltop slums), chock full off violence, gang warfare, the narco trade, life, love, and more. You will likely enjoy this film. If you love this film then you should watch the excellent related film "City of Man".

RE: The Wire

This is by far the best written television show ever on the subject of current urban America. Primary author of this series is The Baltimore Sun's city reporter/journalist David Simon. See this - it will be worth your while.

RE: The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover

This is a film with a great deal if breadth. There is a literate quality to the film. One feels at times that one is walking through one of Europe's premier art museums such as the Uffizi Galleries in Firenze/Florence Italy, as you take in the visual style of the film. Stylistically however this is typical of all the numerous films of Director Peter Greenaway. Yet be warned that mixed in with the artistic high-mindedness there is the strong juxtaposition of utter degradation: in the form of violence, beatings, murders, persons smeared with filth, disgustingly putrid rotten food, and the most horrifying depiction of cannibalism you are likely to ever see. This film, appears newly made, although it was produced in the very late 1980's and is still fresh to the eyes - it has withstood the test of time. Indeed this film is timeless. This is the mist worthwhile film of your lifetime.

RE: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

I like this film. The plot is: several elderly people under definite circumstances ( lack of money) had to leave for an unknown for them country seeking for best life. And then we see how each of them could or not accept other culture and traditions... It reminds me my life, and I like tolerance and courage of Judi ( I hope I will overcome everything like she did)...

RE: Avatar

I'd prefer to live the life of these inhabitants in harmony with nature, feeling yourself a part of it and at the same time independent - as a rain drop...

RE: A beautiful mind

Wonderful film! I was surprised to know that this is a story of a real scientist who lived close to us - in Princeton - and died recently! I was always sure that the borders of the mind are so blurry...

RE: The Legend of 1900

I was fascinated by this film by Giuseppe Tornatore...Music by Ennio Morricone is charming...I also liked his film "The best offer".

RE: Eat Pray Love

As for my opinion, the book is much "deeper" - Julia Roberts didn't feel deep inner changes of her heroine. But the work of the cameraman is brilliant. Mostly due to his work you can feel the changes that occur with Liz.

RE: Rough Riders

Fairly few movies exist about this war, so I enjoyed it. There are a lot of historical inaccuracies in it however. Such as the business with the machine guns. Simply put, there were none on the island.

Likewise some argue that Roosevelt took no part in the charge up the hill.

They also miss a chance to show the machinations of Hearst before the war began full of nonsense propaganda about the island. You have to love (if you can find a copy) his nonsense 'news story' about the fierce and totally nude Amazon women fighting with the Spanish. A lot of Americans joined up just to meet one not realizing the story was bogus. All in all a good movie.

RE: Somewhere in Time

This was the movie I was named after. I've also got a supernatural connection going on with this movie and my name that makes you wonder if a higher power didn't have a helping hand in naming me.
