The Poets Voice

There are many sounds
that resonate
throughout the
world..

Such as the rustling
of leaves on a
cool autumn
morning

A crashing surf
at which we gaze
in sleepy awe..

The sound of the
newborn as it
grasps for its
mothers breast

There's the roar
of the crowd in
its exuberation
for a winning
team

The cry of joy
and of loss

And there's the
sound of War..
that alien frequency
disrupting the
natural temper
of our minds

Yet, another sound
emerges from the
ashes of human
destruction-

A voice..that
whispers a sweeter
refrain than the
monotonous repetition
of shells vanquishing
an enemy

That voice..an eloquent
echo of a forgotton
soul..

Has no sound that
the warrior in
his arrogance
would heed

It is not a voice
that bellows with
mindless and
futile rants
reveling in its
conquests

It is the clarion
call of the human
heart..though
supressed for a
season

Speaks truth in
the spring
of hope

The poets voice
sounding like a
lamb

Flinches not in
the face of
the lion

And though time
witnesses a
thousand generations

The poet stands as
an oracle in the
haze..between what
is, and what shall
be

The poets voice..
Ready at the
watchtower

Sounding the bell

A bell..
Which only the
inheritors of
the earth can
hear.

Thank you Odette for taking the time to read this. I tried to capture the feeling of this poetic spirit we all share. Well, at least to some extent.

brilliant write cafetwo. but it is sad most of the noises in america go unheard they are so tunneled here on there own doings you be surprised the people i talked to around this country as a semi truck driver an unbelivable amount of people can't even tell you name of the street thats across the way from where they work or even tell you where there is a building only 2 blocks away.. kickit22.
cafetwo2010
Thank you niah'. I think we all are eclisped by the haze to some extent.

AH!.....Life from a poets point of view, so hard to do, as we seem to view things from a distance and close up and personal simultaneously....and yet differentiate between the two....in there too will be our wishes for all mankind....Good write my friend, well written, well said....Kindest regards...Andrew...cool

Thanks andrew. As always you sum it up quite nicely.'Seeing things close up and far away at the same time. I think what I do is to try an capture states of mind, which is what we all do. But it is our own state of mind we try to round up. To capture the mood and atmosphere of poetic thought is an interesting adventure. Great day my friend.

Hi Cafe

I loved this from beginning to end, you write in an economical and undersdated fashion, and there is much wisdom in your words.

Best wishes

Bill cheers

Thank you Mr. Fellsman.. I guess if I can't say it in simple words I shouldn't be saying it. Simple words and the meaning seems to take care of itself.thumbs up

Hi, cafetwo2010,
Ah, the bar for the poet and poetry has been set high. A thoughtful write with the perspectives of the lion and the lamb poetically joined.

This is a carefully structured poem with a logical flow: starting with different sounds of world the poet brings us to this sound - a poet's voice, emerging from "the ashes of destruction," speaking words of truth and hope; though standing in haze he is for ever watchful, keeps vigil ready to sound alarm and react on the first occasion as a good and faithful citizen. Being a poet means that much and a lot more. Thanks for the poem and dedication to our poetic spirit.

Excellent statement on the power of words and
sounding alarms to injustice. Nice tribute to
the poets. If only words could always quell
the guns...but sometimes words and public opinion
can sway a nation or a cause.Kudos Cafetwo.thumbs up angel peace

Beautiful!
cafetwo2010
Thank you gnj4.. The bar for the poet has indeed been set high by virtue of the extremes of injustice and perhaps an unvoiced plea for clarity from someone..anyone. I suppose we as writers of the more refined sentiments must dig deeper within ourselves to draw out the truth of what we really need to convey. We must find a way to speak above the 'noises' in the world..
cafetwo2010
O marikia..As always, I have to smile when I read your comments , because your interpretive skills proves for the zillionth time that there may be people who write, but there's the teacher who can explain what has been written. You're that type of teacher. You're explanation is exactly the meaning I intended. I could never do what you do. I feel especially graced by your comments. gift
cafetwo2010
Thank you ladybee. That is an interesting thought. The sound of it might create all kinds of moods depending who was speaking. I like to hear women read this sort of thing.bouquet

Thank you boyshchrm. Words to sway a nation.. Perhaps something one of us writes will do just that. Who knows. Many here, I believe possess the ability to connect the right thoughts with the right words to capture the imagination. I suppose we have to know which lock to open.thumbs up
cafetwo2010
Thank you nabii..Your poems are a work of art to me. To me you have the pure heart of the poet with the a most refined eloquence.thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up
