She's travelled a path few have ventured.. And yet..heart thorns are soothed by the divine hand Perhaps she gave away to much in the worlds reckoning but the world reckons with a heart of doubt Her mission in life was showered on the plight of the homeless and she peeled away any vestige of self to secure her mission She exchanged the kiss of galantry for the tattered dress of a servant When her slim figure and chic manner could have secured for her plush carpets and crystal chandliars she chose an abode with the poorly heated houses of the hungry and needful Her name was the whisper of affection in realms that only a hearts musician could write The forsaken and disinfranchised saw the God of love when she parted her lips in angelic smile Warm soup and hearty conversation was the music of the heavens Poverty found the richness of love in run down buildings and in smoking rolled tobacco in cold winter huddles At the sound of 'Light's out,' she would a always say,'Goodnight gentleman..' for this is the day that the Lord has made..' Stomachs would be full but hearts would ever hunger for the sound of her voice.. For the love in that voice of their beautiful queen'' The Queen of hearts~
Cafe another good write and keep them going dear....

a vintage write sir cafe,,im speechless and have to refrain reading,,im one of those queens.
It takes a kindly heart, like yours, Cafe, a bit of love and compassion, just these three, to become a queen or king of hearts. We leave behind no homes or worldly riches when we die, but kind memories of good deeds we've ever done in life, which is the best we could ever do while here. As to reward, we have already reaped the harvest of grateful hearts by having been thoughtful to others, so other awards seem to be superfluous. Just a little quote from Bible for your pleasure: "And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!" (Luke 15:17) Thank you for raising this subject, dear poet!

Hi Cafe
The heroine of your story sounds like an amalgam of Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa.
This is a lovely homage to those who selflessly put the needs of others so far above the needs of themselves. A timely write at this time of year.

Ty Bill** I suppose it does sound like a mix of those two women though I had in mind more of the everyday person serving meals at shelters or any of the attendant staff..Yet many of those people have that greatness of character and heart of a Teresa or Nightingale..
