Neophyte of life
Author: Unknown
I’m a neophyte of life, attentively seeking edification. Knowledge in everything else has no occurrence to me. Perhaps you’d call me ignorant, in some ways I’d agree. Math, Science and history have a small database in my memory. As interesting as the subjects may be, information is usually released and set free. However, tell me a story of you and the lesson of that will always be retained. I absorb those around me like a sponge; they are what feed my intelligence. I do not know much of atoms and cells or other complexities of science that befuddle my mind. Nor do I indulge in formulated math. But I understand what it means to grieve and have a broken heart; I grasp the meaning of the human condition. I understand that our thoughts are none but our own, all the same but perceived on many different levels. I know that, without a doubt, no matter how much a text book can teach, before I leave here, to go wherever it is we may go, even if it’s nowhere at all, the one thing worth my time spent in these waking hours is the time I learned from you. The time I bonded with another living breathing thing, atoms and cells will be obsolete; math will have no equation in it. I absorb it from all that I meet, pretty, smart, fat, thin, ugly, dumb, positive or negative or any other trait we give word to, there’s a lesson in us each. Even if our meeting is brief and I care not to meet again, still something there I’ve taken away, still something I’ll have learned. We all have something to teach even though we’re unaware of the teaching, and I’ll be the one there to learn it should we ever meet.

The poet's mind's eye is keen, attentively seeking. To be able to say, I absorb those around me like a sponge;...I understand what it means to grieve and have a broken heart... is quite an impressive statement for a Neophyte of life. Thank you for sharing your writings with us. Welcome to Poet's Corner!
