Now we hide inside with huge locks, we always walk with someone never alone, carry a knife, a gun, pepper spray.
One Night of banging down a door to get to us...
Now we don't sleep, and shake at ever sound.
In ONE Night they took it all away.

About this poem:
They tried to break down our door one night last week and it has distroyed our peace of mind. 4 woman alone, but my mom of 69 shot her 38 special and scared them away:)
As a child I remember living like this in the war,and at 50 it begins again.
ladyjewel I am sorry for yours and your mom's (and other house-mates')discomfort and trepidations... Safety is never guaranteed, but we can arm ourselves and take precautions...after that, it is in the hands of fate. Try not to lose sleep over things you cannot control, but rest well knowing that you have done all you can to defend. Poignant write... Robert
...Tell you what Lady-J, I am from the streets of Harlem, in NYC, where there are more criminals than anywhere, and I will tell you this, "NOT ONE, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, DOES NOT RESPECT A LADY WITH A GUN"! Tell Mom to "Keep it loaded"! Robert
