Goddam Whiskey

Stick to the reliable sorts
No need for fancy labels
Or superficial exteriors

Twelve years aged in oak
Is often worth the time
And reflected in the price

This Goddam whiskey
I'm sorry I ventured to try
I got what I paid for

Better still, at least
Than cheap sherry wine
Which tastes like gasoline

About this poem:
I like to sample a bit, but I also prefer to be economical, so I commit to a fifth (750ml for you metric types!) at a time.

Great when it all goes well, but having that amount of a poor drink can really bring a fellow down. :) Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Try the seagrams dark honey..Like some drambuie without the herbal taste...well worth the 15 bucks they want for a fifth... cheers Good write btw...drinking

Thanks for the comments! :)

@Madtat:

I've been meaning to try some honey whiskey for a while now. I've seen a couple varieties around now. I'll give Seagram's a shot (har har) next time I 'invest'.

I'm a big fan of Jim Beam if I'm on the cheap, and Johnny Walker Black if I want something nicer. Will be getting a bottle of the 15yr Glennfiddich as a belated birthday gift sometime this week.

Jameson isn't terrible for a lower budget drink either. beer

They aren't cheap, but in my opinion Southern Comfort or Jack Daniels is the best. cheers

They're cheaper, tho! Jim Beam isn't much cheaper than Jack Daniels.

Where I live, they're both ~$20. A cheap whiskey would be $10 for a fifth, and something expensive might be $35-$40 for the same, unless you're getting into some really fancy schmancy stuff.

funny how whiskey is so international - I don't indulge, but all the names you guys mentioned are familiar labels in the pubs here, like the whiskey coloured background too - laugh devil is in the details, nice poem BOA..applause

Glad you put the color scheme together. ;)

Indeed, I generally put colors to match the mood or theme. beer

And Whiskey is perhaps more internationally recognizable than beer, even? Though I could put together a list of beers I might expect to find all over the civilized world, I don't picture them being near as iconic as those cosmopolitan liquor labels!
