when your children are adults they should no longer be under your control, your job is done, you have raised them to live their own lives
Respect your parents help them when they need help, thank them
but they should not control your life when you are grown up, no way

Parents are human beings, they are not all perfect. It's crazy to obey a person for the rest of your life just because they happen to be your parent. There has to come a time when you stop stop blindly obeying your parents

I think that the roll of a parent is guidance and as long as your guidance is well grounded then they will except that to a good enough point.
The roll of a child is to grow to question your guidance and even rebellion is natural in some cases.
I heard this said once....

I never said a man has to be head of my family! I was addressing the op when I said he should be the head of HIS family (children) and I said IN PARTNERSHIP with his wife, I meant if he has one. There is no reason the head of a family should be a man, it can be a woman of course. Either a man or a woman, but ideally one of each, an EQUAL partnership. Its easier for two than one, and where there is two they should of course be equal partners

We loosely belong to our family, but we really belong to ourselves..
We are responsible for our thoughts, actions and deeds.. we should not be reliant on anyone else.. if we are adults..
Children can be reliant on any family adult member, and although its customary to be kind to our parents, that does not include the word 'control'...
Control suggests power and I dont believe that other than having control of our own lives, is necessary...
unless, we take control if our parents are very ill, and we have a dreadful anguished decision to make...based on opinions in conjunction with medics.
