Back in the early 80's, a girl my younger brother later went out with was looking for a job. The prospective employer wanted to meet her in a bar, so they made a date to meet.
Once there, she could tell that something was off with the guy. He was big and unshaven and coarse, and even for a girl looking for an entry-level office-job, she could tell that this was not the type of character that went with the job description.
The bar was almost empty, and fairly dark. It wasn't long before the prospective employer showed his true colours and began coming on to her. She's not a big girl, and he was (and still is) a very big, strong guy.
All at once the guy grabbed her and began dragging her toward the back exit. She screamed for help, two bouncers came flying from nowhere, and the guy hightailed it out of there.
The guy's name is Clifford Robert Olson, and the girl in question testified at his trial.
Now, does your poll answer gibe with the potential risk involved?

So far I have met a few in a busy place with an easy exit and have told my friend where I am. Haven't had a problem hopefully won't. Just be careful. One in paticular I didn't like as soon as I met him had a bad feeling I exit straight away. Says No thanks Bye.
I believe it is the responsibility of the Man to make a meeting place as safe and comfortable as possible. You rarely hear of a man being dragged out the back by a girl, even though I've seen some girls who could probably do it Now, if you want a real risk, invite someone to meet you in your apartment or Motel room. woo hoo how risky is that? Any offers? heh, heh,

The rule of thumb, as I've read, and heard, is to always meet (for first times) in the open--a sidewalk cafe, an open air or outdoorsy-feel mall, a park near business, etc... avoid the evening, dark, small cramped quarters, in fact, one of the best, it is said, first dates is, a zoo! Fun, interesting, etc... much to have conversation about, and you don't have to pretend, etc... because almost everybody likes some of the animals, and if you get somebody who doesn't like a zoo-- Hell, they're a circular file item, anyhow!*
I make sure that I would meet them in a public place and make sure friends know where I am and who I am with...so, if I don't come back in a reasonable amount of time or check in with them in that time, they know to send help, quick..... Always being safe is better than being sorry later...JMO
