this is where (one of the many) I always get into trouble!!
It should not be expected that men should pay!! There are still women who feel that way, though. The first date, should not be someplace expensive, maybe just coffee at Dunkin Donuts or if you are independently wealthy. Starbucks. So who pays shouldn't even be an issue.
I spend a lot of time with another CS member, we are just karaoke buddies, but sometims she pays and sometimes I pay.
But even far into a relationship it shouldn't always be that the man pays. That worked a long time ago, when women didn't work and had no money. But in todays economy, women make equal (in most areas) pay and are equal in all ways. So why should they not pay for an evening out!!

I agree.. I always take in turns. I'm perfectly happy to pay. Though, I'm sure like a man.. not if I can see along the way I am being taken for a ride.
I agree, it shouldn't always be the man to pay, but then if they are old fashion and assist on paying, I wouldn't push the issue. Specially if its only the donuts and coffee thingies first lol. JMO :-)
Jonner: I would say split, but dont mind paying for the day at all
If I went on a first date and a guy expected us to split.. I would.... but that would be the last date.. ... I am not in the least bit impressed by a guy who does not at least offer to pay... yes am old fashioned in that way..... not that I would expect it all the time.. as the relationship progresses things even out.. but I would expect a guy to wanna make an impression...

Oh I agree.. if someone asked me out for first date dinner.. then when it came to pay he was looking to me for half the money.. that would be the last time for me too.
Nor would I expect to get half the money out of someone *I* asked out for dinner.

dunno.. think that comes accross as a bit mean.. would prefer to just take turns cooking or going out.. my friend went out with an English guy for a while who always split.. dunno there was just something a bit wierd about a couple after a meal counting out their portion of the bill at the end of it.. even with my best girlfriend we take turns to pay... think thats a less miserable seeming... cause even though it evens out and neither of us feel like we are being taken for granted... still feels nice being 'treated' to lunch.. and we share in the task of 'treating' the other..
rasgumby: This is one of the reasons it is so much easier for women to date more often then many men.
lets say a Guy goes on 4 dates in a month.. average cost $50 per date.. thats $200 in that month....
ok.. now those same 4 dates cost the woman nothing....... Getting the drift here?
lets add another question into this............. If the woman has children........ who should pay for the babysitter for the date night?I have had many women say that they think I should pay it?! so then it turns into a close to $100 date
I did have one guy offer to pay for my babysitter, I was surprised to say the least. My children are my responsibility and it is not up to someone else to pay for my childcare.
rasgumby: I would be more than happy to pay!! I will even make you a home cooked meal.. anything you want........... If you pay for my round trip ticket!
that would be one hell of an expensive home cooked dinner
